I mean Kovinic wasnt great there but encouraging signs towards the end in terms of intent from Emma I thought.

You can clearly see she is carrying a niggle mind. Feel sorry for her really.

Every time I see kovinic I am left wondering how the hell she is ranked so high.

Yes well done Emma. Very composed and clearly still recovering from illness

Great. Job done. And nicely too.

A pretty forgettable match overall. K was poor. Emma seemed to be coughing a bit too?

But I liked the way Emma was attacking the second serve. And how she didn't panic when she got broken those times at the start of the sets. Serving quite well too.

Overall, a very pleasant result

 Spot on assessment.

I don't think she was feeling too good. Looked like she just wanted to get off court as quickly as possible during the interview. Wrists seem to have held up ok though she wasn't pressed that much really.

I didn't watch but if she is visibly still unwell then she needs to think carefully about whether she plays the next round.

I'd be all for bringing in a rule where you fofreit 10% of your ranking points for retiring from a match or giving a walkover.

That sounds a great way to get players playing when they shouldn't be.

Glad Emma got the win even with her wonky wrist, although getting past Linette in R2 seems unlikely at her current level of fitness.

Emma didnt look to be struggling too much I thought. Yes on some of the longer points but the commentators kept on suggesting it more than was evident for me. The test of course will be Linette who is a top 10 player this season.

Fantastic turnaround from Emma. 4-1 down at one point she takes the first set from Magda Linette on a tie break.

Emma does seem to have the upper hand psychologically but she still looks fragile, not at her imperious US Open winning best by a distance. The niggly wrist is a worry.
