Other events, 2023 - week 9

South Africa, J100:

Both Max Castle and Max Carrier won in R1 but lost in R2

Allegra K Davies has won two matches and is into the QFs

Bahrain J30

Emma Cohen took the title last week but was obviously feeling the effects as she had to retire in her R1 match here

But (1) Sophie Bekker (age 14) and Alice Haddad (age 14) both won their R1 matches here

As, in the boys, did Issah Ali. But Yash Bahalkar lost against the 2nd seed

Senegal J60

Tamara Kuti lost in R1

13 year-old Grace Chinwike still to play

(1) Sophie Bekker (age 14) and Alice Haddad (age 14) both won their R2 matches here, although Sophie's was a real nail-biter - 1-6 7-5 7-6(5)

Good luck to both in the Qfs

Issah Ali lost in three sets

Nice news in Senegal J30

As 13 year-old Grace Chinwike & partner have made the semis in the doubles, as have Tamara Kuti and partner

PS I watched some of Grace's matches at Les Petits As qualis this year, on Youtube - Grace is a strong girl and hits a lovely powerful ball - nice serve technique too

Sengal J30

13 year-old Grace Chinwike & partner lost thier semis in the doubles, but that should see 2009-born Grace get an ITF junior ranking next week (she'll be only our 4th player, I think, of that age to have one)

Tamara Kuti and partner did one better, and have made the final

Apparently even better. The ITF site has this as a J60

So it does......

In fact, even I did, in the first post.... and then it got downgraded somehow......and it stuck.....hmm

But, yep, congrats Tamara !

And even more so because it looks like she's won dubs three titles at J30 level before but this is her first at J60 level.....

I really don't follow this but I love team tennis (especially for youngsters - should be mandatory - and not doubles-only county cup stuff that they seem to have for adults?) and I see that nearly all our top juniors are playing 18U County Cup this weekend

Even Hannah Klugman showed up for it, supposedly called up at last minute

She won her singles over Sarah Copley, without breaking sweat, and then the doubles too, with Amelia Tye

There were matches on Friday, Saturday and the final matches are today.

Just, randomly, results that I noted are:

Ben Gusic Wan defeated Oliver Bonding

Nao Nishino is playing (which is nice to see - maybe another 'Lily nationality change' at some point???)

Young Hollie Smart def. Serena Manca

Edie Griffiths def. Isabelle Britton easily

Hannah Read has barely broken sweat in all her matches

Ivan Raath must be Marelie's brother

....

Yes, but she didn't play in the first round of matches on Friday

And I'd heard that she wasn't going to play but was asked to come in, in extremis, on the Saturday...
