Phew. Well done Katie. Got there in the end

Sounds like she made heavy weather of it after playing so well in Canberra.

I saw most of the final set. Good serving and tremendous defence from Dolehide made it very hard for Katie to win points against the serve. Katie played a good tiebreak though.

Lily Miyazaki won 6-4 7-6

She served for the match at *5-4 and then again at *6-5, both times got to 30-15. I only started watching at 5-5. Long game before she eventually broke serve. SJJ with a df to end the contest.

--

A few ugly errors from Jodie on easy shots in an otherwise brilliant performance. Barbora's backhand was occasionally sensational but produced more errors than I was expecting. The Palicova serve was erratic; sometimes her 2nd was an invitation, other times it was faster than her first. Super serving from Burrage 62% winning 85/56 with 9 aces 0 dfs. Saved the one bp she faced with an ace.

Jodie completely ignored my suggestion that she stay away from Barbora's backhand.

Coco lost her only other match this year to Hibino in Auckland. She has hardly played since last summer.

I expect to see both girls progressing to the main draw. Hopefully Katie can follow.

Katie having a horror show sadly. She failed to break in the first game and it sort of looked like she immediately deflated and didn't really believe she had this one in her after the gruelling match in the previous round.

1-6 2-3*
