Lucy took the doubles title in Sardinia, well done to her.
The next series 1 event is the Israel Open starting next week, 9 October. Then three weeks later on 30th October , the year end NEC Masters takes place . Hosted by the Catalan Tennis Federation, the ITF's year-end wheelchair tennis championships on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour takes place on 30 October 5 November at the Emilio Sanchez Academy, Barcelona.
The entry list has been announced for the World Masters ,
The tour finals in wheelchair tennis.
Here are the Brits:
Mens singles - Alfie Hewett (2) and Gordon Reid (6).
Womens singles - no entry
Quad singles - Andy Lapthorne (8)
All top 8 players are entered in each field of 8
Mens doubles - Alfie and Gordon (1) in an 8 pair draw
Womens doubles - Lucy Shuker (5) in a 6 pair draw (playing with American Dana Mathewson)
Quad doubles - Andy (3) playing David Wagner in a 4 draw field. Interesting he isnt playing with Donald Ramphadi with whom he won the French Open; Ramphadi is in the singles field but not doubles
Before the year end final in 3 weeks, next week is the Israel Open , an ITF Series 1 event. This is like an ATP/WTA 500 event and should expect a few Brits to play.
With the Israel Open not taking place due to the situation in Israel, the next big event is the ITF Series 1 event (ATP/WTA 500 equivalent status) in Catalonia, the Catalonia Open. This is in Barca at the same location as the following weeks NEC Masters Finals , so we should see a strong draw in Barcelona for the effective warm up event, particularly as players will have missed Israel
Two big final weeks for the wheelchair players. Both at the same venue in Barcelona- the Catalonia Open next week is an ITF Series 1 (like a 500 level) and then the year end Masters finals. Both events on clay.
Not sure yet on the field for the first weeks event, will find out early next week
Alfie won his QF match over Dutch player Tom Egberink in a 2 hours 56 mins battle in 3 tough sets, into the semis now. Alfie plays Egberkink's compatriot, Maikel Scheffers, the last 4.
Gordon Reid lost a 7-5 3rd set in a 3 hour 28 mins match to Spanish 3rd seed, Martin de la Puente. Good effort for Gordon and he will be someone the other players want to avoid in the NEC Masters at the same venue next week.
Both Alfie and Gordon play in doubles later, as will Lucy in the womens doubles semis.
