That seems a huge number of Italian ATP ranked players.

Does anyone know what sort of financial support Italian players get, particularly the lower ranked ones? Or indeed any other reasons as to why quite so many give it a serious go? Has the number increased significantly over recent years with more home ITF tournaments?

I guess the French have their team and other money tournaments but I have seen very little discussion about Italy.

Last time I did this was in Julyafter Wimbly when the Italians had 167 ATP ranked players - they do have a lot of domestic tournaments including a lot at 15K. No doubt the LTA aren't interested - preferring talented Brits to go to the states to learn tennis.
