2023 Women's Predictions Competition

I still think it will be a lottery who to pick for next year, not only because of the injury situation but the ages of some of our players - several are in their late 20's and not performing quite so well, and the next set of youngsters may or may not break through this year.

I'm going to close this year's competition no later than next Monday. Only Heather is still playing from our top players and I'll wait to see how she does in Dubai this week. I think the men are effectively finished for the year now with limited point-scoring opportunities.

I'm not sure that Harriet (27), Katie B (27) or Lily (28) will necessarily decline next year, but the injury struggles of Emma, Fran and Katie S make their ranking really hard to predict - all three, when fully fit are players much higher than their ranking, but the question of course is whether they can get and keep fully fit. I've been really surprised by Lily's ranking and it is lovely to see Heather doing so well again in Dubai, and with Sonay Kartal and Amani Banks coming through and lots of good youngsters, I think it should be competitive in a good way to make our top ten next year.

Changing of the guard might have to wait for another three to five years I think, maybe even longer, if Katie B and Harriet stay fit,

My Predictions for 2023 were

1. Emma 60

2. Harriet 90

3. Katie B. 120

4. Katie S. 125

5. Jodie 130

6. Heather 140

7. Sonay 180

8. Lily 200

9. Eliz. Maloney 250

10. Eden Silva 290

Reserve Marni Banks 300

Looking back on my not too brilliant predictions for 2023 I realised I must have made a few typing errors. Emma should have been Katie B., Harriet should be Jodie, Katie B should be Harriet and Katie S. should be Heather..

I had the same problems with typos - keyboards are a nightmare; on mine, the number 2 button constantly plays up and I've just realised that Emma's and Katie S's entries were missing the 2 at the start. If the computer had been working properly, they'd have been genius guesses (and not 200 places out).

These posts made me laugh

But I guess this week, at any rate, is the moment of truth - I think the addict is closing it today, didn't they say?

So, suspense time.......

Yes, closing it today. Once I have checked today's rankings, processed and checked the figures.

You take your time, the addict

I'm just getting a tad excited because, having had a 'mare most of this year, I had a quick look this morning and I think I might have nailed Lily !!!! (Yes, only one out of ten, I know, but I'm taking anything - and one player spot on can sometimes cover a multitude of sins )

Yup, dead on the WR.170. Iain1314 was also spot on for Lily and 1 out for Jodie. Bagel was just 1 out for Marni, emmsie 2 out for Lily. Quite a few other were 3, 4 or 5 players for various players.

Here is the final table. Congratulations to seagull for leading the table since July.
Scores are rather lower than usual, mainly due to Emma's long absence meaning that everyone only picked up one point as she finished the year as GB #9.

Well done, seagull - you're flying high !

I was second to bottom at the end of July so this table makes FAR nicer reading (Lily, you are my saviour !)

Great job by the addict, many thanks

Out of interest , TA, do you have a roll of honour of who has won this each year since it started , or even a roll of shame? Just out of interest, keen to see if anyone is a regular winner, i can follow their predictions next year! (Too late for 2024!)

No I don't have a roll of honour. You'll have to look back through the threads I'm afraid. And you can edit your very early post right up until the deadline as I won't be entering any data until after Christmas (but I'm out of the country for New Year so have to tie it all up before I go).
