Davis Cup Qualifiers 2023 - Colombia vs GB - 3-4 Feb

Well, that was enjoyable. Those two play well together.... didn't they reach a couple of ATP finals together two years back or so?

ATP Masters 1000 finals indeed in 2021. Miami and Monte Carlo, losing to Mektic and Pavic both times.

In Monte Carlo they beat Cabal and Farah, then WR 3 and 2 respectively, in the SF on a MTB. They did lose quite a tight two sets match to the Colombians at the end of 2021 in the Paris Masters.

Good one. Get this all wrapped up tomorrow.

Or in an hour or so as Cam leads 6-4 *1-2 and Mejia is having treatment on his left thigh at the changeover

So if Cam wins this one is Dan's next match a 'dead' rubber?

That was when Dan was really soaring in the rankings singles wise as well wasn't it, and before he got   Covid and seemed to  fade a bit (quite alot in fact)?

So glad they won that, not just for the team but for him as well.

R4:  Cameron Norrie WR 11 defeated Nicolás Mejía (COL) WR 253 by 4 & 4  smile

And that, unless I'm very much mistaken, gives us an unassailable lead:

COL 1 GBR 3

Every credit to Meija who loved performing in front of his home crowd, made a match and a partisan atmosphere of it he did.

Great to see Skupski and Evans beat an established pair like that, got to be first choice again next time out as well, fitness and form allowing I hope.

Norrie was very efficient second time out on the dirt, I'm sure Evo would have been much improved had he needed to play but I'm gutted Jack didn't get a game.

Good stuff

I loved the team buy-in to this tie, reflected in Cam's comments after his first match, from Jon's earlier ITF match report :

"Especially given that we're the away team, they've got a huge advantage [with us] coming here on clay, in altitude, with the fans out there," Norrie said after his victory. "That's why we love it and that's why we're out here playing. I really enjoyed the match today and I can improve on a lot of things going into tomorrow."

Proper Davis Cup.

I was definitely on Dans side at the last tie. He and Neal, whilst not an established pair, did have a pedigree together and some success so really should have been the choice.  Anyway onwards and upwards. No doubt Jack will get an opportunity soon

Galan has pulled out of challenger next week. Lost to Chardy in first round of Aus Open so maybe an issue.

I was right. He has pulled out.

I see that for this coming week Galan is in both the singles and doubles draws at ATP 250 Cordoba.

It mght have been a bit tighter if Galan had made the Davis Cup.

Apparently the Kosmos ITF contract has been cancelled.

Missed this in the press at the time but checking out the story, there are several articles suggesting Kosmos have filed a lawsuit against ITF for not stating grounds for cessation of contract. The ITF in response are saying they will also take legal action for payments not paid by Kosmos inline with the contract.. LOL glad to hear this apparently 3 billion 25 year deal is up the wall, I hope those who tried to monetise the DC have learnt a lesson. The format had evolved to what it was and was just fine, where fans got to see and follow their nation home and away. The sanitised atmosphere of neutral venues is complete garbage when compared to the old home and away format right through to final.
