Davis Cup Qualifiers 2023 - Colombia vs GB - 3-4 Feb

Apparently the Kosmos ITF contract has been cancelled.

No surprise there!

On the BBC site, Russell Fuller writes

And there are contracts in place which should not be affected by the split with Kosmos. The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), for example, has just begun a five-year deal to host one of the group stages of the Finals.

That is interesting - so each September we get a group? Does that mean we qualify automatically in future or could we host a group without a GB team in it?

I hope its revisited and returns to Home & Away ties. Although not sure if there is room in the Calendar for that to happen now.

I guess they could do 2 rounds of home and away ties in Feb and then sept in line with the calendar this year before a finals event of 4 teams in November? Or maybe 24 down to 6 or such? Or 20 teams to 10 and then 5 joining a host in a 6 team finals?

whatever , it could be done stillbut it looks like 5 year contracts are signed ?

Galan has pulled out of challenger next week. Lost to Chardy in first round of Aus Open so maybe an issue.

Youd think it would be Norrie, Evans, Draper. Neal & Joe? Neal & Evo for the doubles? Did well on clay at Monte Carlo in 2021?

And indeed it is.

Re being on clay, I think that's much more relevant for singles as against doubles.

Anyone any thoughts on how the playing team will pan out? Cam and jack or Dan in singles? Joe not inform really, Dan and Neal in doubles?

these are best of 3 sets now, arent they , so maybe cam and Dan on day one, swap Jack in for Dan day two and Dan and Neal in day two doubles?

Day one - 2 singles matches 1v 2  - best of three sets

Day two - 2 singles 1 v 1 and 2 v 2 and a doubles match  - all best of 3 again

ETA - I believe the doubles match actually starts day 2 not ends it, so it will always be a live doubles match

Am I the only one who wouldn't have jack playing singles on clay. Any other surface yet, clay no.

my instinct is to play Cam and Dan day one.

Day two put Dan with Neal assuming doubles opens play

then play Cam and Jack in reverse singles...as Dan will have played and Jack will be fresher by that point

But...

Given Dan's "dissent" about the doubles last David cup I think Leon will pick Joe and Neal to show who's boss.

I dont know. i think León will just want to win. If we are 2 up after day one, he may rest Dan for second singles, but I have a feeling he knows joe and neal isnt our best pairing

I notice British former top 100 junior Jack Malloy is on the Irish Davis Cup team. Despite finishing American college a couple of years ago he hasnt played a professional event since 2018. He has changed to Irish on the ATP site but is still British on ITF.
