RE: United Cup

For those wondering I found this on the ATP site. Each tie comprises two mens and two womens singles matches and one mixed doubles match.

Id just assumed it was one man and one woman on each team. Also bit surprised theyre letting doubles specialists play. Thought the whole idea would be to let the stars play together in a mixed match. Does this mean a mixed doubles match will get ranking points for I think the first time ever?

They havent announced the points structure yet, I dont think? But cant imagine mixed would count towards rankings ?! To which rankings would it count?

id realised it was 2 mens and 2 womens , presumably more points for winning at 1?

presumably this initial squad gets reduced?

And just after they sort out ATP and Davis Cup mess, they now put the Hopman Cup back in the mix ?!

Confirmation - 6 teams, one man and one woman, in Nice, on clay. In July.

Be genuinely interested to see what entry that gets? All the top men and women will be on hardcourts or prepping for them. With no ranking points, which players will see this as a good option to take? Doesnt work for me, sadly.

Week 52 - United Cup, Australia

Given this is mixed and there is a general thread , might this be better in the general section ?

This seems strange commenting here as its been set up as a wta thread but Cam and Dan have some cracking matches here as warm ups for a slam.

Im still not sure about this event or how seriously we or the players should take it , but certainly the mens entry is very strong.

With respect to Ranah and Ella, the fact we have 2 juniors in the womens squad, and our #1 woman has chosen elsewhere tells you everything on how seriously we're taking it on the womens side.

I dont agree with giving ranking points for a team event as players don't have equal opportunity to participate and it will distort the rankings.

You could always copy the data across to the mens section if you wish, so that both groups get to see it.

Seems very convoluted! Im happy to comment here , seems daft having two threads - not sure we should title it WTA and ATP 500 though maybe to have one thread covering both?

I have visions of SC starting a mens thread and it all getting very messy!

And thank you to those who start these threads , they are always welcome and I know the task in putting them up and maintaining them is arduous !
