They win. I dont think Jonny will be used in any deciding match after that performance. Harriet most definitely will be.
I'm disappointed that she hasn't got a partner for the AO doubles, she's a cracking doubles player that, with the right partner, could be a GS champion.

She would have needed someone ranked 42 or better to make the cut so a tough one. Needs to get her singles or doubles ranking at 70 or better to get into the Grand Slams with a similar ranked partner.

Heather is in the doubles. I think Harriet is a good enough doubles player to attract a higher ranked player as a partner.
Staggered to catch up on this new format event and find GB excelling.. Perhaps we caught some nations unawares with better match fitness, sod em.
GB would prefer Germany I'd Imagine in the city venue final but even if it is USA then as I understand we can still make the SF with a narrow defeat, very odd format but 18 doesn't get to 2^n easily does it..
Italy and Greece have qualified in today's morning sessions.
Venue finals :
Sydney: USA vs GB
Brisbane: Italy vs winner of Switzerland vs Poland (currently 1-1)
Perth: Greece vs winner of Croatia vs France (currently 2-0 to Croatia)
Everyone is going to qualify with a 2-0 record and everyone is going to either match our 7-3 record or better it so it seems unlikely we will go through to the semi finals as the best loser.

Presumably if anyone tied 7-3 after the city finals, it goes to sets difference? Ps it is definitely record in all matches they look at and not just the city finals results in determining the best loser? Im sure it is but havent studied the rules closely!
Yes, it's looking very much as if we will need to beat USA. And that looks a very tough task
What this format deserved was two venues producing 4 group winners with 1-1 records and the other venue's 2 group winners having 2-0 records and both guaranteed into the SF before they struck a ball in their venue final ( or even just the 1 with a 2-0 record and guaranteed through and maybe making life easier for their opponents )..
The group winners were always more likely to have 2-0 records with one nation proving superior. But it's still an awful format.

it is - they have just basically lifted the awful ATP Cup format, 18 teams in 6 groups, top player qualifies the team etc and transplanted it - they say a fool repeats the same mistakes, and they have definitely been shown as fools!
I like mathematical exercises. I hate that being an unnecessarily prominent part of determining progression in a tennis tournament. But it's as if some in authority think it's cool to make it complex
I suggest that if this is staged again next year having 16 nations, 4 groups of 4 in 4 locations.
