Another good effort from Harriet by the looks of things. She was always behind in the second set, and Paula managed to get over some physical issues and turn it round.
Hoping Harriet can continue this level on the normal tour grind and keep moving upwards. She can play such good tennis.
Looks like it is over to Dan. He has a good shout against Ramos Vinolas. Would be good to win and let the mixed play out as a dead rubber - maybe Jonny and one of Ella or Ranah will get a go if Dan can win?
Dan off to a good start .
realised all rubbers wins will still count if we get through and lose play off tie (for best play off loser slot) so
maybe we need to play our best available pair still regardless of Dans result?
Was a bit confused to wake up to Radio 5 Live tell me that Harriet had beaten Badosa to make it 2-1 in the tie.
Anyway, now that I see unfortunately that it's the 2-1 bit that was right, c'mon Dan.
And yes, with the crazy system and then qualification criteria for the 4th semi finalist ( best overall record of the venue losng finalists ), even if Dan wins we should be going all out for the doubles too.
Well certainly didnt fancy our chances when given this group. But great effort. USA or Germany next I guess. Not sure on the tiebreakers for the groups.
Well I am going to be a total pessimist and say we haven't a hope of getting out of this group and Spain and USA will be 2 of the 4 teams contesting the semis.
Well thankfully I got that all wrong. I think we are the 1st team with 2 wins through to the next stage to face the group C winners.
USA beat Czech Rep. 4-1 and Czech Rep. have beaten Germany 3-2 so in the USA vs Germany tie, USA just need 2 wins or the Germans need to win 4-1. Czechs are out of it
Let's win the doubles here though for a nice 4-1 win.
If USA beat Germany or lose 3-2 , they get through I believe . If Germany win 4-1 or better, they get through. I think as it would be a three way tie, so goes on win loss matches as opposed to head to head?
