Ella comes through 7-5 6-3 against an opponent who was underpowered, reliant on a high UE count from Ella and excessive moonballing to be competitive.

Agreed. Her tennis wasn't a great spectacle. Ella wasn't playing at her best but still looked like she had a much classier game than her opponent.

The second set was closer, but a break in the 8th game gives Will a 6-1 6-3 victory

In doubles Ranah continues with the partner she has been with in all the grand slams this year (had to withdraw from Wimbledon though)

Girls Doubles R1 (L32)

El Allami/McDonald (MAR/GBR) v (6) Cross/Mboko (CAN)

It's not a great match, IMO (but then, Brady's tennis always leaves me rather underwhelmed) but Patrick has taken the first set, 6-4

Ranah's match is faintly better but Ranah is clearly the stronger player but makes SUCH sloppy errors at times
She led 3-0
She led 5-3
And now we're at 5-5

ADD: and then loses it 5-7

Ranah came through 5-7 6-3 6-4 getting just enough winners to compensate for the high error count. She will probably need to play a lot better to progress further, with her likely round 2 opponent being Liv Hovde, currently cruising through her round 1 match

Ella and Will play their round 2 matches later this evening. Patrick is likely to be up against Wimbledon semi-finalist Martin Landaluce, though the Spaniard is in to a first set tiebreak currently in his round 1 match

The expected opponents for Patrick and Ranah (Liv Hovde did the Roehampton/Wimbledon double, and beat Harriet Dart earlier in the year). Ella and Will may be on court in about an hour, if the matches currently on their courts are decided in straight sets. Ranah also has her doubles on later.

Boys R2

(Q) Patrick Brady v (5) Martin Landaluce (ESP)
(16) Michael Zheng (USA) v (Q) William Jansen

Girls R2

Ella McDonald v (14) Mirra Andreeva (***)
Ranah Akua Stoiber v (3) Liv Hovde (USA)

Good battling from Ella to pull it back from 3-5 down.
