August 2022 British Player of the Month Vote

Here we go for August, 16 players this month!!

Voting will be timed to close at around 9 pm Monday evening, dont forget to have your say.

We have had between 30 and 40 votes most months this year, let's make this more like 40!!

NOMINATIONS

1. Dan Cox - for achieving the most British wins in grass events over the 2022 grass court season

2. Patrick Brady - age 17 - UNR - defeating the second seed, ATP 298, and then Toby, ATP 703 in Nottingham M25

3. Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls - for winning their biggest titles so far (WTA250 Granby and ITF 100k in Poland) and reaching new CH's. Lissey will become GB #1 and WR69 and Liv has risen to WR72.

4. Johannus Monday - for winning his first M25 final in Illinois, having slashed his ranking from 1500 to circa 560 over the summer.

5. Katie Swan for her first title at 60k level in Lexington beating (assisted by) Jodie Burrage in the final

6. Ella MacDonald (age 17) for winning J1 singles and doubles in Durban, and JA singles and doubles semis in Pretoria, taking GB #1 slot, and hitting JWR 21

7. Dan Evans - reached the semis of the Masters 1000 Montreal in singles and the final in doubles. His second career singles masters semi. In singles, beats Rublev and Fritz along the way; in doubles beat the 2nd and 5th seeds in the process.

8. Neal Skupski - won the Canadian Masters 1000 title with Wesley Koolhof, their second Masters title of the year and up to a doubles CH 3.

9. Cam Norrie - for reaching his second career Masters Semi and probably third best performance of his career overall, plus beating Carlos Alcaraz to equal his career high win , reaching WR 9 in the process.

10. Joe Salisbury - won the Cincinnati Masters 1000 title with Rajeev Ram, their second Masters title of the year and third in all to add to their two Slam titles.

11. Giles Hussey - for reaching the singles and doubles final at M25 Roehampton, and winning the doubles

12. Jamie Murray - for winning his first ATP tour title of the season in Winston-Salem, and rising back to WR14

13. Alisha Reayer - winning the 15k doubles title in Mexico - her first final - first title - showing that 'they also serve....', the tennis pyramid needs all players....

14. Marni Banks - age 19 - runner-up in Roehampton 25k, beating several top-500 players - after many injury problems - gone from unranked in July to WTA 801 now, before the Roehampton points get added

15. Megan Knight - won the British Nationals U12, despite being a category below (a big deal for that age) - beating the clear favourite, and doing it playing excellent, stand-out tennis

16. Anna Brogan - runner-up in Vigo, Spain 25K, beating the 4th and 2nd seeds, ranked 311 and 256, before losing to the top seed, ranked 224, in the final. Enough to take her to a big new CH, possibly just inside the top 400.

Personally I could have voted half a dozen ways - cam, Joe and Neal were all close.

My vote came down to Dan, Ella, Lissey /Liv, anyone of them for amazing results at the level they played in.

But Ive voted Lissey / Liv.

If folks can say who they voted for when they vote, it would be great - you dont have to and you may prefer privacy but I find it very interesting !

So far, the vote is all over the place! Haha.

Ive been wanting to vote for Lissey and Liv quite a few times before but havent because they just didnt quite compare in those months to the achievements of others. This month I have no hesitation , they deserve their success and this is their moment. I am keeping everything crossed for them in the vote and in their next matches. Well done!

Of last months nominees , only Cam and Neal made it into the vote this month. It is great how the joy is spread
Around. Cam of course won last month, Neal I dont think has won one before. With a masters 1000 title, maybe its his time?

In fact Neal has been nominated 7 months out of 8 this season, just missing March. I think that is the most of all players (although Id need to check more forensically).

Cam is the only one of this years previous vote winners to be on this months list , in fact. Having a great season.

A great list this month and I could have voted for a number of them. But I'm sticking with my nomination of Lissey and Liv for their performances over the whole month and climb up the rankings.

Its funny how last month was Wimbledon and yet, probably because it was early in the period, the rest of July and the vote felt a little flat. This month feels like its been a build up. And more interesting .

next month is US Open then DC later so maybe continued highs.

I nominated Johannus but in the end gave my vote to Lissy & Liv for what they have achieved recently.

Sorry JoMo. You were my runner up.

And Katie is a past PoM winner, from June 2021. Time for her to win another one maybe?
