Yes, I agree - take the positives, Jon - the people who vote enjoy it - others may enjoy just watching what happens - there may be lots of non-members who keep an eye on it too - and you'd have no idea - it's obviously going to have wider traction than just the actual voters, by definition.
To be completely honest, I would stop posting on every thread to tell people to go and vote - it sort of distracts from the other threads and is a little off-putting - there's just a hint of 'nagging' (or more than a hint? )
Keeping it open for a week seems a good idea though (not a month) - lots of people just stop by occasionally - 24 hours is too short (as is 48 hours). Put it up there. Leave it up. It goes back up to the top of recent ones automatically when someone posts. Put a couple of reminders just on the thread itself to bump it up if it's fallen too low. Just my idea
PS I always vote - often a bit randomly without great thought, tbh - but hey, so does a big chunk of the electorate (IMHO)

Thanks CD - its good advice re the nagging and I will stop that - it was something i was aware of in my head but my slight frustration took over !

re leaving it for a week or so- Im in 2 minds. The past disappears quickly and the new month takes over and also 90 percent or 95 percent of votes are in after 24 hours anyway - its the chase for more votes versus the aim of declaring a winner and lesser of those two evils.

Ill stop the nagging and hassling but have a think re the timescales ! Maybe Ill compromise somewhere on that !

I don't have an issue with it being posted on a tournament thread because a lot of people don't venture to GD but only one in each of the Men's and the Women's so the one that is still live at the end of the month, alternatively a thread in both main sections that people can choose to open or not

I'm with CD in leaving up the vote for say a week.

OK, the big majority will vote early but you will likely catch some votes from more occasional visitors and/or folk that have been otherwise preoccupied during the relatively short voting period. Indeed you see these 'late' votes even with a closure date and time having been announced.

I really don't see any need for such a quick declaration after we've been nominating for the previous month. Let it sit there for longer.

thanks Indy, I don't either. I religiously choose an option and click it but it sometimes takes and sometimes doesnt. Not sure if doing in on phone or laptop makes a difference but it is what it is.

Ok, thanks - I will give the week long vote a go for the September period, let's see how it goes. I will lay off the advertising on other threads as part of that (one man's advertising is another mans nagging!) as it is less needed and will give the occasional update on here. Let's see how that looks for September/October.

For the Player of the Season vote, my process typically (as mentioned above) was to run the Nov/Dec Player of Month poll, straight into Player of Season rounds. I might rejig the timings and run the wild card vote earlier (in November, after October Player of the Month); move the Nov/Dec PoM vote a week earlier (as December play really doesnt impact much) and then free up a little time to run the Player of Season vote over a slightly longer period of a couple of weeks as opposed to a few days.

But don't need too worry about that right now!
