Boys & Girls: J5 Bradfield, UK - clay (Week 31)

So, we have another J5 event in the UK this coming week. Which is nice.

Fabio Nestola is playing, which is ridiculous really, for a J5, as he's JR 379. However, it's nice to take part in local events too. (And there's only four players in the top-1000, so he's really the outlier)

Well done to the qualifiers too - AlexanderTikhonov (who beat the top q seed), Brooklyn Bamburac, Denis Ivanov and Giovanni Berto (AUS)

In the girls, Scarlett Perkins (WR 527) is top seed. 17 year-old Kate Mansfield (USA) is second seed.

Six players in the top 1000

Some interesting potential matches and performances to watch out for.....

Young Isabelle Britton may have got a wildcard - which will please me

Congrats to qualifiers, Sophie Lowe, Siana Macdonald, Charlotte Holmes and NuriaSarganella Verdu (ESP)

It's a tennis centre to the west of Reading

The boys R1 was pretty uneventful with the only points to note, IMO, being:

Top seed, Fabio Nestola, took three sets to beat Taymur Muhammad

Arthur Attrill, seeded 5, lost to an Italian lad

Young Alfie King got a win

However, in the girls:

Top seed Scarlett Perkins lost

As did my little fave, Isabelle Britton, but only just, against Jessica Matthews, age 17, seeded 7

And, on a better note, another loss was the second seed, from the USA - beaten by our Ciara Moore, age 14

Wins too for wildcards, Sophia Kovacheva (age 14) and Annabel Hristova (age 14)

Brooke Black and Ciara Moore should do very well in this one. Big fan of both of them. Can see these 2 players going all the way. Aged 14, I believe.

I only came across Ciara reasonably recently - never seen her play, not even on livestream

And interested to hear that you rate her well

And Ciara came through her R2 match with no problem, and will now play Maria Ustic (also age 14)

Brooke actually lost easily but she was playing Hannah Read who I'd probably have as the favourite for this event (although I don't know the Spanish girl)

Sophia Kovecheva, age 14 and playing on a wildcard, did very well to beat Mia (seeded 4)

In the boys, the quarter-finals have seven on the top eight seeds, so pretty much all going according to plan

Hannah Read still going strong, winning 1 & 1

But so is the Spanish girl...

And paulisi's little Sophia - always nice to see a young wildcard do so well

And also TW18's Ciara !

We're all happy

Girls SFs are:

Sophia K v Nuria Sarganella Verdu (ESP)
Hannah v Ciara

The boys has the top four seeds:

SF:

(1) Fabio v (4) Luke Hooper
(2) Carl Holder (FRA) v (3) Luca Bluett

Nice one for Luca, beating the French second seed

So we have an all-GB boys' final:

FINAL:

(1) Fabio v (3) Luca Bluett

In the girls, young Sophia came up a little short but a great week, nonetheless

My pick for the title is in there, though, one match to go:

FINAL:

(3) Hannah Read v Nuria Sarganella Verdu (ESP)

In the doubles, the girls final is:
Scarlett P & Isabella Wong v Jess Matthews & Hannah Read (going for the double)

and the boys:

Jack Curtis & Aaron Dawson v Jack Deveney & Luca Bluett (also going for the double)
