Boys & Girls: J5 Edinburgh - clay (Week 27)

Obviously, all eyes are on Junior Wimbledon, and the top end, but nice to see an outdoor clay J5 event for GB youngsters at the same time

(There's also a J5 event in Ireland too)

Qualis start today

The top seed in the boys is Ben Hudson

But LTA young pick Joe Mazingham is also playing.

Allegra Korpanec Davies is listed as the top British girl playing, assuming she's made it back from Malta where she's just taken the title

13 year-old Mika Stojsavljevic is also listed, again assuming she's OK to play after the European Cup events

Congrats to Sorcha Caves, in the girls, who has put out the top seed in R1, in three sets

All other results so far are going broadly with rankings

(NB neither Allegra nor Mika are in the draw which is not that surprising, see above)

Good to see Cameron Fryer picking up a singles win and more points

Cameron Fryer has taken out the top seed.

I thought he was a bit useful when I saw him at Liverpool.

The GB boys presence isn't that great for a J5 - all five British lads left in at the QF stage are age 16 or 17, which is pretty old for a J5 - but it's nice that they all get a chance to play proper competitive tennis and gives a chance for the better ones to build on something, maybe boost their ranking for their college applications etc.

The girls is a lot stronger in that way - in the QFs, Isabella Walker is only 13; Aimee Knowles is 14, as is Georgiana Mititelu, and Shamiso Ndoro. So that's four of the six GB girls left age 14 or under

I've seen 3 of the 4 girls mentioned( not seen Shamiso). Isabelle Walker is the best of the bunch, but has had some tough draws in domestic ITFs and should be ranked higher.
In the boys a couple are Scottish based and haven't travelled to much, but are good players.

Georgiana Mititelu beat Isabelle Walker in three sets

Aimee Knowles also beat Yvonne Subev, seeded 7, in a third-set TB

So both 14 year-olds through to the semis, but not quite to be yet for 13 year-old Isabella

The two play each other so the winner will be in the final

Shamsio Ndoro and Gabi Lindlay also both lost in the QFs, both in three sets

In the boys Cameron Fryer won his QF and will play Jack Deveney in the SF

Kyle McKay is also into the SF

The boys' doubles SF are 100% GB - so good luck to all four pairs

The girls doubles SF have three out of four pairs as GB players so good luck to them too

Boys:

Cameron Fryer lost to Jack Deveney in the SF

Kyle McKay won his SF

So it's an all GB boys final

Girls:

Georgiana M def. Aimee Knowles and she'll play the Italian third seed in the final

In the boys' dubs, Liam O'Brien and Finlay Watters (brother of Rhys?) won their SF in the MTB - 17-15 (!!!!). Got to feel for the other GB lads.....

They'll play Ben Hudson and Joe M in the final

Also into the girls' dubs final are Aimee Knowles and Isabella Walker

And so we have:

Boys' Final: Jack Deveney def. Kyle McKay 2 & 0

Girls' Final: Georgiana Mititelu def I Righi (ITA) 3 & 1

Boys doubles Final: title to Ben Hudson and Joe Mazingham

(Our girls pair lost their doubles final match)
