Girls: 2022 Wimbledon (Week 27)

And, with a few wobbles, they won !

Excellent tie-break from Hep - those two clutch serves at the end, not to mention almost taking the head off her opponent at the end of the really long rally

Well done, the two of them - thoroughly enjoyed that

Really enjoyed that match too, thought Hannah had a great positive energy and Heph did well at the end to hekp close it out. They worked well together they complimented one anothers playing styles. Caught up with the other girls doubles matches too. Daniela And Sofia was like a usual girls doubles, which is a shame as their opponents only Really had one strong player from a doubles perspective With Olivia Lincer looking very good. Daniela struggled on serve but I also think her movement and footwork  are not quick enough for a fast doubles match.  Mimi and Talia lost 4 & 4 which Im sure they will be disappointed. Mimis serve seem to have deserted her in the doubles making few first serves, holding her serve once in five service games  - just holding serve once or twice more and the result could have been very different . Talia had a good serving day and played very well on the backhand side. Very fine margins and a few dodgy calls, seemed no challenges available on  this court. Good luck to mimi in the singles today Im sure on court 18 with the crowd behind her the serve will be back in form - she seems to relish the big environment - good for her!

Like you, I was rather glued to the girls' doubles yesterday

I didn't see any of Mimi & Talia, though, so thanks for that

I watched a fair bit of Jaquelyn O and Jessica M's match that they made as ALTs

A good match. Jessica brought a lot of good doubles skills but struggled to make basic forehands which explains her lowish singles performances. Jaqui played very well - the best I've seen her play in a while - but just got a little too ambitious right at the end - playing on the net player and serving and volleying on MP was an error. Shame - it was very close but the girls did well

Didn't watch a large amount as it was obvious where the match was going but Isabelle and Ella was like two singles players on a doubles court (which is fine - they're doing well in singles). Ella, in particular, made some awful volley choices and neither seemed very comfortable.

Given and Millie also put out a good show, though. Definitely the best I've ever seen Given play - far less nasty chips and chops and good feel of the court. Millie was a little out of her depth, didn't really seem to know where to be at the net, but tried well. A decent score.

Jasmine had a great opportunity today to get through to the quarters - her opponent was given a walkover by the 8th seed. Lets go Jasmine!!

First time I've ever seen Jasmine, is this her last year as a junior?

BBC iplayer is still on day 9 and is not showing any tennis as yet for today!

On their website however and she is doing well, taking the first set 6-4

I have iplayer on the computer, with Jasmine

She seems to be playing nicely within herself, letting the other girl make some errors

She made that look very easy

Well done, Jasmine

Mimi has such a monster strike for 14...

Only watched the last 3 games so possibly incorrect but Mimi seemed to be quite a lazy mover. Obvs 3 games full if errors might not be a true representation.

I think she's let her head drop at the end, which was a shame but showed her lack of experience of 'making the other person suffer'

I wouldn't call her a 'lazy' mover - I think she's a tall, well-built girl who earns her points from power and so she doesn't have to be (and would never be) as nimble and light on her feet as some of the smaller girls

For instance, I think she moves better than Laura Robson did, say - more athletic, more dynamic when she comes to the net

But, yep, you didn't get a very good showing in those last few games, that's for sure..... cry

Mimi was playing a 17 year old. So surely that had to be a factor in the older girl being stronger and more developed at this stage.
But Mimi has a good game for 14. Think how good she could be at 17.

She looked very relaxed and won the match very efficiently. I'm sure she's benefiting from playing in women's tennis.

Yes, I think 'efficient' is a very good word for that match

However, it was a slightly easier match than 'normal', given the W/O in the round before

She's got the Czech girl who utterly thrashed Isabelle Lacy next, and who's just beaten the second seed - that'll be a real test
