Looks like she was doing better on first serve: seven aces to zero; and she won 68% of points to 66% on first serve as well as getting more first serves in than her opponent. However, she did much less well in her second serve points won: 32% to 54%; and only 3 out of 11 break points won, as opposed to 6/14 for her opponent.
Still it sounds like it was a close match and things she can work on for the future.
The semis are set, with (a sign of the times) 3 Czech players, though not the highest seeded of them Brenda Fruhvirtova. In the top half Nicola Bartunkova , who has won all her 13 Junior matches and most of her Pro matches this year (WTA350) takes on the one interloper Solana Sierra from Argentina (WTA575) who some will remember seeing edging out Matilda M at the US Open (en route to the semis). The bottom half sees Lucie Havlickova (WTA863) in her fifth consecutive junior semi (one Grade A title) takes on Sara Bejlek, the only player in the draw courtesy solely of her WTA ranking (WTA270 including victory in her last 25K event).
In the boys there are 4 Europeans (1 each from Belgium, Croatia, France and Poland): Gabriel Debru (FRA) having the highest ATP rank (781)
So the girls final is between Solana Sierra and Lucie Havlickova. The Argentinian ran away with the second set after a tight opener against Bartunkova. I watched some of the more dramatic semi featuring Sara Bejlek, compact and comfortable trying to use her lower body strength to gradually work angles from behind the baseline. Havlickova, a tall girl Hantuchova like in appearance, was more aggressive and served for the match in the second set. Bejlek saved matchpoint and then won the tiebreak, giving her a mental advantage. That carried to 5"-4 in the decider when she was unable to serve it out. Havlickova showed considerable resilience in breaking back and breaking again to take it 7-5 despite a touch of cramp I think. The pair, who beat Ranah and partner, will have to come back this afternoon for their doubles semi together, which will be a test.
Just as in 2021 we have champions from France and the Czech Republic: Gabriel Debru winning against the Belgian Bailly 7-6(5) 6-3 whilst Lucie Havlickova triumphed 6-3 6-3 against Solana Sierra
Yes, the French - obviously - are VERY happy to get the boys' title - however, very few of their male players have transitioned well in recent years so we'll wait to see if anything happens in adults in a few years
