This is a really tough one to call. Sonay is obviously the in form player, but to top this poll she's going to have to pick up wins at 100K or WTA level where she is completely untested and it's going to be very hard for her. I think she's bound to get some sort of Wimbledon WC so is unlikely to feature in the play offs. Of course she might do an Emma and sail through, but I'm not sure we can expect it. Harriet, Heather and Jodie haven't shown great form of late, Katie B, Katie S and Fran have all had injury problems so we don't know how many matches they will survive. Eden's been doing well but faces a similar problem to Sonay with the jump in level. Beth is only just starting her comeback after surgery. I really hope I'm just being pessimistic but I do worry about our prospects.

So having discarded everyone else I arrived at Emma by default. I hope she comes good again at Wimbledon and that all the others can at least stay fit and fulfil their potential.

I love the analysis and forensic detail!!! Kudos, SuperT!!!

Sorry - I've just remembered you said it was just a bit of fun!!  I'm maybe taking things a bit too seriously?

Sonay had all the early votes, but Emma supporters have pulled it back and put Emma ahead. 6 other players (incl Eliz Maloney!) have got votes

PS unlike the PoM polls, I don't see any need to keep this vote secret as it isnt about who gets most votes, but subsequently about who gets most wins!!

I think it depends on whether Emma stays fit and whether Sonay gets into qualifying tournaments. Emma seemed to have recovered much of her form recently but will she stay fit, on balance I have gone with Sonay.

30 votes so far which is great. And still a week to go!

One thing to note is that if rain forces matches to be played indoors, as could happen, they will still count. All matches are part of the grass court tournament even if not played on grass- and I cant go back and check on all court types matches are won on!

Surely Sonay will pick up some wildcards (e.g. Surbiton?)

Its great we have 37 womens votes so far, really good! Meanwhile our men go unloved and for some reason unvoted. A gaping chasm no less with only 27 votes in the mens.

I cant believe at least 10 folks literally have no interest so am hoping it is because they havent visited the mens vote!

Give the men your support, your country needs it now!

In order to win the most matches a player needs to be fit to play matches. That rules out most of the women on the list as they have physical or mental frailty. In a match the player with the highest true ranking has the higher probability of winning but not all observed rankings are true. If a player is awarded a wild card into a level beyond her true ranking she is likely to lose. That rules out most of the remaining players.

After much thought I have decided to go for Ms Grey who seems to have run into form and may therefore be below her true ranking. I do not think her cardiac problems are relevant, they ae not tennis wear-and tear (as del Potro, A Murray, Wawrinka, Federer, ...) so should not recur.

Voting up to 44 votes, fantastic!!

Thats a record for one of the polls, certainly that I have run.

Big request though still - the Player of the Month Vote for May is coming up on Sunday evening through Monday. 44 votes would be great for that so if everyone who voted here can vote in that, result!!!

And the men are at 35 votes now, so please please head over there if you havent voted in the mens already!!

In light of the ATP decision to cancel ranking points at Wimbledon, the organisers of this poll event have conferred. It is clear that a British win is a British win regardless of who is or isnt playing and therefore all wins at Wimbledon and the qualifying events will still count in this competition.

A press release will follow in due course
