Most British Grass Court Wins

Advance warning that I plan to post polls to let people select the players they think will win the most grass court matches in the coming season.

I will do it for singles only but will count wins for main draw, qualifying, British and overseas events, ATP/WTA Tour and Challenger and ITF events through the 7 weeks, running to the end of Newport (In case any Brits play Newport).

I will post 19 men and 19 women in separate polls plus an AN Other position in the poll - as I am counting qualifying wins as well as main draw, it could prove interesting and an outsider could come through

I will post the polls this weekend coming and ask folks to place their vote before Surbiton starts.

I will post the polls and thread in the respective mens and womens discussion section this time to allow for them to get more visibility and to allow them to have relevant discussions taking place as the grass season moves on - although the polls will of course be predictions contests!

There are 3 mens 25K grass events over the 4 weeks after Wimbledon. Are you including those?

 mmm. I had actually forgotten about those...but probably for completeness, if I am doing Newport RI, I should do. Is the first one in that week of Newport and then the following two weeks?

Did you have the LTA Calendar handy as I think I forget about those events and they arent on the ITF website - presumably, from your post, it is just men on grass, are the women scheduled at the same time on hardcourt?

Presumably the womens grass "season" ends with Wimbledon?

I was also planning to include the Qualifying Wild Card Play offs in the calculations as well! But not the British Tour events that are taking place in the likes of Felixstowe etc

Yeah, just men on grass. The women are on hardcourt.

Thanks Lambda

So, I think that the totality of events is as below:

Men -

Surbiton Challenger;
'S-Hertogenbosch, Stuttgart, Nottingham Challenger;
Queen's Club, Halle, Ilkley Challenger; Aorangi WC Play Offs;
Eastbourne, Mallorca, Roehampton Wimbledon Qualies;
Wimbledon;
Newport R.I, ITF M25 Roehampton;
ITF M25 Nottingham G1;
ITF M25 Nottingham G2;

I think that is right for me - all main draws and qualies (I called out WC Play offs and Wimbledon qualies specifically as they sort of feel like separate events to one big "Wimbledon").

Women -

ITF Surbiton;
Nottingham, 'S-Hertogenbosch;
Berlin, Birmingham, Gaiba, ITF Ilkley, Aorangi WC Play Offs;
Eastbourne, Bad Homborg, Roehamption Wimbledon Qualies;
Wimbledon

so 16 mens "events" and 12 womens "events" main draw and qualies

Mens will obviously cover a few weeks more than the womens.

I wondered if anyone could help me. Over the grass season I ran a prediction poll to ask which British player would win the most grass court matches. This is the thread where I raised the plan but I cant find the poll threads with voting and results for 2022. They will have ended in July or august 2022.

I can find the 2021 version but recall 2022 getting a lot of votes.

Ive searched in general and in predictions and used the search bar but no good. Anyone out there able to find the 2022 British grass court wins poll threads, please let me know ! Thanks

Thats right , we got 58 people voting in the womens prediction poll, the most ever for a poll, to this date.

Not going to fix what isnt broke, so will post there again, unless anyone objects! It will be May before I do it though !

Jodie Burrage (with a breakthrough summer) and Dan Cox (courtesy of the final ITF events) took the respective titles .

 Looking ahead to the grass, the womens events this season appear to be exactly the same as last season above; the mens seem to have the it post Wimbledon ITF events slightly changed, with an M25 Nottingham and then just one week in Roehampton on grass. last years third week seems to have disappeared from grass and hardcourts follow. So one event fewer

for the men.

let me know if I have that wrong!

Just to advise, I plan to post the prediction polls for the 2023 version if this around 22 May , ie based on those rankings and just before French qualies starts ie around 2 weeks ahead of surbiton. This worked well as a timescale last year!

It will be the top 19 men and top 19 women plus an other option on each based on that days rankings. Last year we get 50 plus votes for the womens and 40 plus for the mens.

Ill post them in the mens and womens forum areas unless anyone really objects , as the predictions forum section doesnt work and hides it away!

More importantly , just 5 weeks until the grass season starts! The sooner the clay ends the happier I will be! Haha

The voting polls for the grass court wins prediction game will go up tomorrow - it will be just under two weeks before surbiton starts but it gives people time to consider their vote.

I will include the top 19 players in mens and womens plus an other - Ill take out any obvious known absences eg Emma Rad. Are there any other players we know wont play the grass? Amanda C? Any men?

The prediction game will be which British player you think will win most singles main draw and qualies matches in the events that count towards world rankings - so that would include LTA Wild card play offs as they get you into the main qualies. And for men, it will go through the two post Wimbledon ITF events on grass.

I wont include the UKPL event at Felixstowe in June or any British Tour events such as North Oxford.

It will be posted in the prediction section this year as that is where it sits most easily and Im less obsessed with voting numbers than I used to be!
