Which British women's player will win the most grass court tournament matches 2022

SO , I thought I would get this up here

Grass season starts the last weekend in May with Surbiton and , for women, spreads over the events below.

Vote here for the player you think will win the most grass court matches over the 2022 season - I am counting main draw and qualifying wins, incl the WC Play Offs; just singles.

NOTE - if play goes indoors in a grass court event, any wins gained indoors WILL count in this competition

I will close the votes before play starts on the Sunday at Surbiton and then keep track and update as the grass season passes. Please comment and add, it makes it more fun!

I have listed the top 19 currently ranked British players below - there is room on the poll for 20 so I have put that as AN Other - if you plump for AN Other ,say who you have in mind and we can see who is right at the end; as it is MD and Qualies, it could be interesting. For reference, I will post later on who got the most wins last year!

Events (only those with GB entrants or possibly GB entrants as of 26/5/2022)

Week 22 -

Surbiton ITF 100

Week 23 -

WTA 250 Nottingham

Week 24 -

WTA 250 Birmingham

Ilkley ITF 100

Aorangi Park - Wild Card Play Offs

Week 25 -

WTA 500 Eastbourne

Wimbledon Qualifying - Roehampton

Week 26 / 27 -

Wimbledon

none of the overseas events have Britons entered.

I thought I would get it moving - I have voted Katie Boulter as I feel her game suits grass, she will get plenty of opportunities to play and in qualies may pick up some wins that she wouldnt do in the main draw!

I thought I would get Ms Kartal started, to discover that I didn't.

I trawled through the 2021 main draws and qualies - did we have Wild card play offs in 2021, I cant find any results?

So with that caveat - ie the WC play offs might have taken place and change things - then last seasons wins at MD and qualies look like:

5 wins - JoKo and Emma Rad.

4 wins - Heather and Katie B

3 wins - Eden and Tara

2 wins - Katie Swan and Naiktha

1 win - Beth and Harriet

No, the wild card play offs weren't held last year.

Lots of folks going with Sonay so far (well 3 out of 4, but good support for her!)

Landslide here I think, be surprised if anyone else gets any votes. We dont have many on form at the moment as well so thats probably not going to help.

So far it is Sonay 6, rest 2 (Katie and Tara).

What form does Sonay have and she will need to win at a higher level than shes won before - she may well top the list but I dont think its a done deal!

Thanks Telstar, that is an interesting one - and quite a few other votes have now come in which spread the range out quite nicely

This is a really tough one to call. Sonay is obviously the in form player, but to top this poll she's going to have to pick up wins at 100K or WTA level where she is completely untested and it's going to be very hard for her. I think she's bound to get some sort of Wimbledon WC so is unlikely to feature in the play offs. Of course she might do an Emma and sail through, but I'm not sure we can expect it. Harriet, Heather and Jodie haven't shown great form of late, Katie B, Katie S and Fran have all had injury problems so we don't know how many matches they will survive. Eden's been doing well but faces a similar problem to Sonay with the jump in level. Beth is only just starting her comeback after surgery. I really hope I'm just being pessimistic but I do worry about our prospects.

So having discarded everyone else I arrived at Emma by default. I hope she comes good again at Wimbledon and that all the others can at least stay fit and fulfil their potential.
