Van Rijthoven is in the singles final in atp 250 in s-Hertogenbosch; he lost in qualies last week in Surbiton! And plays Ilkley next week. If he wins the title tomorrow, youd have to say hes putting himself into the wild card discussion.

 Given that the first two challengers havent produced a winner not already in the main draw, the dutchman and Virtanen are two putting themselves in the discussion.

 I don't see either of them getting a Wimbledon MD WC. Just a smidgen of a chance for Van Rijthoven if he wins that title but I'd still doubt it.  Definitely not Virtanen, it'll be a result if he gets into qualifying.

 Yes, Virtanen was fanciful , but it will be interesting if van Rijthoven wins the title as to what they decide to do. 

Moving this here as the original comments are in the womens wild card play offs thread and this is about the mens!

I think I disagree, sorry CD!! For me, if we are giving wild cards to winners of the 3 Challenger events, then it is perfectly right that someone winning one of the ATP Tour grass events these few weeks, not already qualified, should get one. Particularly given that Surbiton and Nottingham has ended up with a player winning who needs a wild card, I think it is great that Van Rijthoven gets rewarded - don't forget he also beat Medvedev there. He may do nothing at Wimbledon but for me it is what a wild card is for!

 I was just putting myself in their mindset. The grass season is short and there are 6 Tour events and 3 Challengers in the run up to Wimbledon - and Eastbourne and Mallorca are too late probably for wildcards. I think Wimbledon has been keen to try and create a sense of a grass season and the aim of rewarding the winners of the 3 Challengers as they have been doing in the past few years was to bolster those events and the season. I guess they didnt expect a player to win one of the Tour events from such a low base, but it creates a good feel good story if someone does and then gets the reward for it. He will enter the MD now with a little bit of narrative around him and be someone to keep an eye on. 

He probably also earns as much again with the WC as he did for winning the title, ha.

 I think the Lloyd and Harri thing was just plain weird!! It was no doubt obvious to them they would need to give Lloyd and Harri and team wild card, no way they would split up and it was almost negotiating for the sake of it - we have some strength here guys; when in fact I am sure it would never have ended up with anything else than Lloyd and Harri getting the wildcard; imagine if they had forced Lloyd to play with someone else...and then the charade about trying to get a singles CH WC in Helsinki in recompense. All just a bit silly for my liking!!

Good to see Ali G given his chance as well. And Felix, Aidan and Billy in qualies. Perhaps with a good run at Ilkley, Dan or Charlie can also secure one - maybe whoever wins their match up today?
