I think the reason I put Anton down as well as Arthur is because they both made it through to FQR last year, more that than recent results.

 I'm with you.

I think Billy and Charlie have zero chance of getting a quali wc (based on the here and now - obviously if they get an amazing run at Surbiton/wherever that might change things)

Ali is well-liked by the LTA (rightly) - played well on grass before college. Meteoric rise in the last 9 months.

Aidan is also well-liked - young - very good chance

More controversially, Anton and Arthur (there's an 'A' thing going on here ) certainly have a good chance - both did well last year, both are young, both are liked. Far more chance than Billy and Charlie, I reckon. In fact, Will Jansen may have more chance than Billy or Charlie no

(NB Felix is very likely too - but didn't fit my 'A' theme.....

Given they can only give 4 (due to wild card playoffs x 2, Junior U18 Nationals winner, Luca, and then the WImbledon Junior champion from 2021 ) who would you give your 4 to.

I think Charlie is a stretch but Billy is clearly right up there in terms of performance this season, based on the Race.

I guess we are all agreed it is 4 from Ali, Aidan, Felix, Billy, Charlie, Anton and Arthur - but sadly 4 from 7 wont go!!

I thought the Wimbly wildcard play-offs only gave one guaranteed place ? And the other was often given but discretionary?

NB For general info the details are here:

There is 9 WCs to qualifying.

I don't see how 1 of the play off wcs would be discretionary. As they don't play to a single winner that would be unfair on 1 half of the draw. As it says in the fact sheet, "The final two players from each of the men's and women's events will be guaranteed wild cards into the Wimbledon Qualifying competition." (Emphasis mine)

ETA: I don't believe there is a guarantee that reigning junior Wimbledon champion gets a WC. It is usually the case, but not always - it didn't happen in the womens last year.

Thanks, Lambda. You're obviously right smile

I clearly remember that about 5 years ago, they used to play to the end, and guaranteed one, but often gave another (especially when they favoured the runner-up)

But hadn't clocked that it now clearly says TWO

thanks Lambda, good to have someone who knows their stuff and where to find the resources to support it!!!

So 9 is good, that is a help and gives 5 places, plus maybe that junior winner you mention; Samir Banerjee hasn't done a whole lot since winning last year and is only just ranked in the top 2000, so not sure he would be deserving really, or add any real value to the draw...so that may mean we have 6 at large wild cards plus the 2 play off's and Luca Pow. 6 would certainly be less contentious, and CD might be happy to find a spot for Billy or Charlie on that basis!!

it's not a question of who I'd like to have a spot, it's who I think is going to get one

Your wrong. smile It has always been 2. Sometimes if a last minute qualies wild card comes up they give it to one of the play off semi final losers.

Indeed, I think they have always stopped at the semis.

Presumably if it rains, they will play the matches indoors at some local courts, does Aorangi have indoor courts or would they pop down to the NTC in Roehampton?

There are 5 indoor courts - which I believe are within the redeveloped area on the west side of Somerset Road.

Pretty sure Wimbledon have just built new indoor courts on the bit the other side of the road on Somerset road.

And in the somewhat unlikely event (IMHO) that a Brit wins the NCAA D1 Mens Singles they would not be eligible for a Wild Card into the US Open (as not American) so would be given a Wild Card into the Wimbledon qualies in the same way as Paul Jubb ?

D1 Mens Championships singles
Automatic
James Davis - Denver (grad student)

At Large
Arthur Fery - Stanford
Johannus Munday - Tennessee
Hamish Stewart - Georgia (grad student)

Good point EP! When do the NCAA D1 singles events take place? Presumably coming very shortly if they are to be relevant to the Wimbledon debate?

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 19-22.

Excellent - does it always run alongside the French Open in terms of dates.

Good to see action kicking off tomorrow then, will look forward to the updates!
