Week 18 - ITF W25 - Nottingham, GB Hard

Mimi wins 2-6 6-1 6-2 and has that WTA ranking as a 14 yo.

Whatever part or not going for that ranking may have had in her scheduling, she's banked it now. So even moreso I certainly see the arguments for now withdrawing from next week here. She is currently fairly high on the alternates list

Mimi and Eden have both won. Alice lost and Maia into a 3rd set

I do not see why people are pushing for her to take the WC to Ilkley.

Shame that Eden's points for winning in Nottingham haven't gone on yet. She would have been seeded. Feels like she won ages ago!

Similarly Gabby Knutson and Katarina Stresnakova won the doubles but haven't been able to get in this event because their points haven't been added. Why can't this happen immediately?

I always understood it was because at the lower ITF levels, certain events can run over, or the tournament referees aren't necessarily completely ready to submit them immediately, they're pretty low key, low budget events, so you need to give them a bit of time to get all admin done (and occasionally the matches played too)

Maia was beaten by 1-6 6-4 7-6(4).

She did have a 5-2* lead in the final set.

Pity but the great thing is that she is back. Hopefully she is feeling good and is back to stay.

Yes, lovely to see her back. And she looked good on the court - pretty fit, happy etc.

(The chippy forehand is still a major issue but it's hardly the most relevant at the moment )

Which is always what I understood! But the results are up each day on itf website And all sorts of other sites so reality in the modern age is that this isnt a problem ?!

In this particular instance the non adding of 15K/25K points at 25/04 will be compounded by there having been no 02/05 WTA rankings update due to Madrid spanning two weeks.

So even for next week beginning 09/05 these points earned in the week beginning 18/04 will not count for seedings ( which will still be based on the 25/04 rankings ).

It's a real shame. It essentially means that despite a 52 week rolling ranking system that these lower tier tournament winners don't get a full 52 weeks of benefit for the additional points.

and it really makes little practical sense anymore as per above.

I think futures points come off a week later as well as going on later. OER says Eden's 50 points from Nottingham will come off 8/5/23.

I haven't checked any others but they'll probably change the rankings method at least twice by then.

Yes the points come off on the anniversary of going on. So they also come off later and players do have them for 52 weeks. But I guess if you are trying to make your way and on the rise you would prefer the earlier on and off scenario with your most recent performances recognised asap.

I think it should all just be aligned in this day and age - ie tournie finishes and points go on the Monday's list.  They seem to be able to manage it for Wheelchair events, they go on next day, and presumably so with the Juniors as well? So it really makes no sense as, admin wise, the organisers of those events are no more or less well resourced than for ITF Futures events...
