Boys & Girls: J2 Florence, Italy, clay (Week 15)

Traditionally there is a Grade 2 event in Florence ending on Easter Monday.  This year's incarnation is graced by Ella McDonald and Phoenix Weir, who must have recovered from whatever caused his retirement in the U18 Nationals

Boys R1 (L32)

Federico Bondioli (ITA) v Phoenix Weir

Girls R1 (L32)

(5) Ella McDonald v (WC) Gaia Parravicini (ITA)

Bit odd ending on Monday - doesn't fit in with the ITF calendar and I assume means the finalists cannot play next week.

Theres a J2 starts on the Tuesday in Slovakia that both Phoenix and Ella are listed for so presumably the finalists can happily move on there.

Although it may be inconvenient outside of the week before Grand Slams events can and usually do have first round matches scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday.  It just means there is no reserve day in Florence for the final, and finalists moving on elsewhere will have less preparation.

No joy for Phoenix again - Ella plays tomorrow

Boys R1 (L32)

Federico Bondioli (ITA) d. Phoenix Weir 6-3 6-2

Yes you are quite right - I clearly didn't check that the score I had written matched the 3 sets mentioned no  Corrected now.  Ella is top seed in the doubles with Evialina Laskevich (through to the quarters)

Ella lost her singles QF to the Polish WC but meets her again in the doubles final after winning her semi.

Great to Increase the rankings but this one was a kind draw. WC, WC, qualifier. great experience on the clay for Ella who I presume is doing the French Open.
