British National Championships - Fantasy event - Men's Singles Rd1 Match 2

So here we go

16 players, all seeded by current ranking.

4 rounds of play.

How does it work?

All matches will be won by the player getting the most votes over the next 24 hours or so.

Assume all players are fit - any injuries are cured; but their form and play is in line with how they are playing now, not their best ever form from 5 years ago or whatever. This is a 2022 event, players are at the level they are , now, in 2022. Just fit.

If a player is long term injured, assume they are just coming back off that injury.

Matches are all fantasy - it is a hardcourt event, indoor hard, playing at the NTC - they can't play outdoors as the juniors are having the U18 Nationals outdoors !

Best of 3 sets.

So you have from now to vote for the player below you think would win, on whatever criteria you select, for whatever reason - upsets happen in real tennis and can happen here!!

The vote will close for this match at around 7pm Wednesday evening; the next set of matches will be posted shortly after that.

Have fun and please participate - it makes it more interesting!!

If this happened in real life, right now, I suspect we would all be intrigued by the outcome!!

This match is lagging 4 votes behind the top ones, several have 14 and this has 10. I thought this the most intriguing match up of all 8 today so do hope folks are able to engage with it a little more !

Some folk are clearly giving this one some in-depth consideration.

I've gone with Kyle for an encouraging comeback match win.

Still just 11 votes in and this one could still go either way, lets see those missing votes here folks!

Remember these all close at 7 pm this evening so plenty of time left

Good grit being shown by Kyle here in hanging in there and indeed mounting a comeback. Could go either way.

This is the most difficult heat to call as it's impossible to know how well Kyle will be playing if and when he returns. At his peak I'm sure he would beaten Paul as he is today, but who knows whether he'll ever be able to get that level again.

And its a draw, 9 all !

So a tie breaker ensues.

Tie break will go on until 10 pm. Winner will be declared then or if still a tie then a coin toss.

If youve not voted here, you could be the match winner if you decide to vote before 10 pm!

So, an hour left and Paul Jubb is edging this tie breaker. He is seeded higher but this could be counted as a small upset if he sees it through - or will Kyle come back and win his...come back??

Winner plays Cam in last 8!

Just a thought for future rounds (where there may be more ties), it might be best to do first vote in the tiebreak wins, if you don't want another tie at the point where you're really run out of potential voters!
