After putting my Daniela out yesterday (boo, hiss), I was pleased to watch a bit and see that Emma Cohen actually plays a nice game and was clearly the better player on the court today.
She beat the top seed, Millie Skelton, with no real difficulty - Emma has a technically far better game than Millie.
Only one court streamed today - the camera on court 3 broke down.
So Given won very easily but couldn't see any of it.
Emma plays Given for a MD place (you'd think Given would be the strong favourite, given recent results...... )
Qualifying has completed with Sarah, Ruby, Given and Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako successful (plus Flora as a LL). Sarah draws Ranah and Given is Hannah K's opponent
Not surprised that Hannah is whipping up a storm against Given, who I don't rate much.
Currently winning 6-1 4-1
And that Mimi won easily over Fran Davis, 0 & 1
More surprised that Sarah Tatu has taken the first set off top seed, Ranah 6-4
Sarah is based in Spain, I believe, and is often in our junior threads, and has been doing a lot better recently .But wouldn't have expected her to challenge Ranah...
Watching a bit of Ranah's match. No chair umpire... Sarah Tatu is quite useful and is reflected when she has entered higher junior events. Ranah, who I haven't seen for a few years, is very good defensively and has good court craft, but lacks a bit of power to hit winners. At present she looks like a solid junior( I don't see her ranking improving much more), but may struggle to move up into senior ranks.

Switched over to Ella v Hep.
This is a really good match.
Ella is tall and technically good.
Hep has power and is aggressive
Hep won the first set tie break.
Yes. I know Hep s game really well.
But nice to see Ella. Good relaxation through her shots - gets her good speed
It was the most interesting r1 draw ....
