Sarah's attempt to qualify was successful (thanks for pointing her out, as I had forgotten to check qualifying - another Brit Allegra Hodson lost in round 1 of qualifying). If she wins her round 1 match she will actually play Ranah, as country separation does not apply when qualifiers are placed after the main draw is made.

R1 (L48)

Marie Vogt (GER) v (Q) Sarah Tatu

R2

(5) Ranah Akua Stoiber v Marie Vogt (GER) or (Q) Sarah Tatu

Wait... there is country separation in juniors draws? I knew that was the case for some of the Closed torunaments/European championship type tournaments but not in a regular tournament.

Yeah, that took me by surprise as well! How does that work in events where most of the ITF draw is made up of domestic players, or half like Loughborough?

Country separation is standard for all ITF junior tournaments.  Loughborough is a clear example.  There are 16 boys in the main draw, and all are drawn against non-Brits. There are 4 British seeds, and they are all in separate quarters of the draw

There must be problems with the rain in Spain, so all matches so far have been short sets - no joy for Sarah

R1 (L48)

Marie Vogt (GER) d. (Q) Sarah Tatu 5-4(3) 4-1

R2

(5) Ranah Akua Stoiber v Marie Vogt (GER)

Unfortunately Vogt takes out both Brits and both are also out of the doubles, so that ends British interrest

R2

Marie Vogt (GER) d. (5) Ranah Akua Stoiber 4-2 3-5 [10-7]
