Week 37 - Davis Cup Finals 2022 (group stage partly in Glasgow 14-18th September)

In a must win doubles rubber I would've played Dan and Neal. Leon isn't paid to make an easy pick, he's paid to make the right pick and there were plenty of people with reservations even before the match was played.

Interesting. While I would have gone Joe & Neal and Joe's selection was indeed not controversial, it should also be true that being #1 ranked in the world ( not far ahead of Neal )  didn't make it automatic.

I think most would agree the doubles was the most difficult choice and Leon is indeed paid to pick.the  team most likely to win.

I would've picked Dan and Neal because they have played doubles together quite successfully previously

It will be interesting to see who plays the last match, Andys comments on the BBC today suggest hes not up for it, Dan surely would prefer to get to San Diego.

Could we see Cam and Joe play singles and joe and Neal play doubles?

Hmm, I know it really doesn't matter much whether we beat Kazakhstan ( as far I know ) hopefully the team selections are generally based on quite a bit more than what Andy's "up for".

Id hope so too, but throwing it out there as a possibility . Its happened a lot in DC in the past where doubles players eg Bob Bryan , played singles dead rubber

Why not give the crowd Andy Murray in Glasgow?

Either of Dan or Cam should play Bublik and AM could take Kukushkin if the Murray in Glasgow thing needs to be upheld. Then let Neal and Joe play together since going forward this needs to be the formula that GB turn to anyway. I see no point continually playing a guy at the end of his career if the chemistry between players is so Important.

I guess for Leon he has given way over the years for Murray and will be a stronger manager without AM in his ear. I sense now that AM is almost getting in the way. The younger talent now coming through gives Leon a great chance to push GB towards another DC title.

Australia, Germany, USA and NL are qualified for Malaga. Spain not yet - they lost to Canada yesterday and have to beat Korea in their last match.

I have almost as little interest in Davis Cup as I do Doubles, that said the singles players lost so I dont think we can blame Andy playing. You pick your best players so the decision was right. Doubles can be a lottery at the best of time so to suggest we would have won if Neal played isnt necessarily correct.
