Loughborough Junior Boys and Girls G3 - week 11

Boosting rankings has to be considered as part of the cost-benefit though - it's not justifiable in and of itself.

I'm not saying I'm against it per se, I like the fact that a big chunk have gone, but I seriously hope that, unlike the normal GB bus trip, that not every single tennis coach has managed to wangle a place. I hope the academy set-up has, at least, managed to reduce that (although I know it doesn't apply to them all, of course)

I see the remaining results are finally up.
Good wins for:
Jamie Diack, Luca Pow, Henry Jefferson, Alex Okonkwo, Ben GW, Victor F and Charlie Robertson

Hannah Rylatt lost in 3. Didn't realise she was from St Helens and now at Stirling.

Yeah, they took their time.

Henry Jefferson's result stands out, being age 16, a wildcard, and beating the 4th seed, ranked 174

He's had some good results recently.

Pleased for Alex O too

Jamie Diack is also another I follow.

Worth noting that five of our player who lost did so in three sets, so very good efforts and experience for them too.

Is Eva Shaw injured? I haven't seen her name in a while and I notice she hasn't entered the 18U Nationals to defend her title.

Hi Lambda - do you have any links to the nationals entry lists. I still find the LTA site difficult to navigate and find things like that. Im presuming it is under what they call Compete or would it be Fan Zone? Either way, the trail soon becomes overgrown!

Click on the tournament, go to the events tab and click on the links for boys and girls singles. The players tab won't have anybody yet because the withdrawal deadline isn't until next Monday.

I think she is. She certainly was. And looked off form last time she played, at the start of the year. In Bath.

So I'm assuming her absence means she's still got problems. Which is a real shame.

Are the nationals in June like last year? At Surbiton? (One of the highlights of my tennis year, that). Or have they been brought forward?

that was my observation also - looking at the link, they are early April (soon!) AND in the NTC and on hardcourt.

Which seems a shame, I like the grass, but maybe April and hardcourt is better. Not sure if outdoor or indoor - maybe both? If outdoor, it could be cold early April (or warm, you never can tell!)

The 18U and 16U championships were moved to April and venue changed to the NTC in 2020 so that wild cards could be awarded for Wimbledon and junior Wimbledon. The 2020 event was cancelled and 2021 event postponed because of Covid restrictions in April and moved to Surbiton in June, taking advantage of the Surbiton Trophy not being held.

They will be played on outdoor courts.

Do you know if it will be open to the public, Lambda?

Not for certain CD. I remember the old LTA website implied they would be open to spectators, depending on covid restrictions, but the info on the new website is rather sparse.
