Apologies if this has been posted already (delete it if so). Iain Atkinson has won the junior Stella Artois Championship, not dropping a set all week.

Yes that was a brilliant victory. He beat Brazil's Nicholas Santo 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the final. That should probably secure a Wimbledon junior wc.

I've just checked and found that Santos is the world no 6. Wow, and Iain took the last 2 sets with the loss of just 1 game !!! Maybe he'll be an dark horse for the title.

Player Biography

Born October 2, 1988 in Washington, Co.Durham

Following his title victory at the International Tennis Federation’s junior event in Winchester immediately after last year’s Wimbledon, this 17 year-old right-hander from the north-east has concentrated on establishing an ATP world ranking rather than spend another year on the year junior circuit.

Foreign excursions took him to China and the United Arab Emirates while closer to home he qualified for a Futures tournament in Bournemouth and reached the last 16 at Edinburgh.

Coached by Christophe Lambert as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s Performance set-up at London’s Queen’s Club, he previously worked with Dave Sammell and physical fitness expert Jez Green. A recent junior trip took him to Turkey where he won a doubles title in Istanbul alongside fellow Brit Ed Corrie.
