Boys & Girls: Australian Open 2022 (Weeks 3/4)

Shame for Ranah, just edged out by the no.6 seed and senior WR 927 4-6 6-4 6-4. Sounds like a good close match and that she proved she's no Laki wink

All our Brits lose overnight, Ranah in singles and Louis and Matt in doubles; Patrick Brady and partner also lost, strangely retiring at 9-4 down in the MTB, why not just let the other guys win the point and see it through?

explains the retirement, Patrick injured from fall at 1-1 in tie break, time violation at 4-8 penalty point awarded To opponents to take it 4-9.

That just leaves the girls doubles from a British perspective, where the top seeds are the opponents (third on 14)

Girls Doubles R2

(1) Ngounoue/Shnaider (USA/RUS) v Kupres/Stoiber (CAN/GBR)

The Russo-American combination went on to win the girls doubles title. Unusually both top seeds are through to the singles finals. The girls features two players with long winning streaks (top seed Petra Marcinko winning the Orange Bowl and Sofia Costoulas Traralgon). The boys has American top seed Bruno Kuzuhara against Czech Jakub Mensik

Oh my goodness. Was anyone else following the boys final? I actually watched the last few points as well - very shocking.

Match was over 3.5 hrs. I watched the last game - the Czech guy was obviously in great pain and collapsed on court several times whist trying to serve. He toughed it out rather than retiring and lost at least one point for code violation or time violation. Final point a double fault then collapsed and eventually taken off court in a wheel
chair.i  think it was the lack of obvious concern by his opponent that shocked me and the time it took to get help to the poor lad also. He was unable to attend the ceremony but it all just seemed rather awkward rather than compassionate.

This sounds awful. Poor guy. I hope he's alright now.

Colette has a report on the dramatic boys match, plus the more straightforward girls match, which the top seed Petra Marcinko won 7-5 6-1
