2022 ITF Wheelchair Tour

Gordon lost his singles semifinal , so tomorrows finals will include Lucy in the womens
, and Andy in the quads.

Congrats to Andy Lapthorne who won the quad singles title at the British Open- the event is a series 1 event, nearest equivalent is an ATP500 event . So very well done to Andy L.

Interestingly, there are no more Super Series level events to come this season - there have been 3 (Melbourne, Atlanta, Nice) but the usual status for the British Open and then the USTA Nationals (after the US Open) hasn't been given (the USTA isnt taking place in fact and British Open dropped to Series 1 level).

The Super series events carry $45k prizemoney versus $32k for Series 1 - but they have 625 points for the winner versus 325 for series 1. So, it means the SLams with 850 points (from memory) stand out. Of course there is just one of those to come, the US Open, and then at the end of October the Tour Masters (in the Netherlands this year I believe) will take place

US Open starts Wednesday with draws
Out tomorrow. Havent seen an entry list but presume it will be Alfie, Gordon , Andy and Lucy from GB. I believe it is a 16 player singles draw in mens and womens, 8 in quads

Draws out - Alfie seeded 2, Gordon in singles also and they are top seeds in doubles. Lucy plays top seeded De Groot in a bad draw and Andy is in quads draws .

Alfie, Gordon and Lucy all play today , Andy starts later in the week (presumably tomorrow) as the quads is an 8 player draw.

Been a big gap of competitive play in wheelchair tennis since Wimbledon, at least for these top players, be interesting to see how it develops this week...

Bad start- Gordon lost the opening set and then retired and is out of the singles. Not sure what this means for his doubles with Alfie.

Lucy played top seeded De Groot, losing 6-2 6-0.

So just Alfie and Andy left

Theyre ranked 3 and 4 respectively so it was always going to be close

Sadly Andy went down in 3 sets. So that leaves Alfie Hewett as our only singles winner on a disappointing day.
