2022 ITF Wheelchair Tour

Disappointment in the doubles as both Alfie and Ben lost in the semis.

So, Alfie is left in , the only Brit, mens singles semis tomorrow versus Kunieda.

Alfie moves into the final but , sadly, he didnt hit a shot to do so , as Kunieda retired at 0-0. Not sure what happened, maybe it was in the warm up?

Alfie awaits his opponent and has played well all week, good luck to him in the final!

Alfie playing Oda, the young Japanese star, sort of the equivalent of Alcaraz in the wheelchair game - young star of now and likely to dominate in the future.

Can Alfie win the last big title of the season? Match warming up now.

Not to be for Alfie , 4 and 3.

Oda will win a lot next year, Alfie can still look back on a slam win and a good season ending as number one

Just one quick note of inspiration for a non Brit who won the Quads title - amazing and well deserved, got colon cancer 5 years ago, recovered over time and now wins the world title, putting aside living and playing with a severe disability

Schroder's remarkable journey to first Masters quad title
Five years ago Sam Schroder had earned his right to make his Singles Masters debut, but on the same day that he booked his flight to Great Britain in preparation for the 2017 event Schroder was diagnosed with colon cancer.

After time away from competition for treatment, Schroder made his belated Masters debut in Orlando in 2019, where he lost out to fellow Dutchman Niels Vink in the quad semi-finals. With the 2020 Masters cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, last year Schroder lost out to Vink again, this time after winning the first set of the final.

However, if youre going to win your first Masters title, then theres no better place to do it than on home soil.

It's very special, its been a long journey and there have been so many milestones this year already, winning a couple of Grand Slams in singles and doubles and to finish off the year like this, its great, said Schroder after defeating Vink 6-3 6-0.

It's just a lot of motivation to keep going when you know that what you're doing in practice and all the work and energy, time and money you're putting into this is paying off with this win today.

It's very special to see a lot of friends and family from both sides supporting each other and it's great to win today because there are so many people watching, added the world No. 2 after halving the points gap that Vink had opened up at the top of the world rankings.

A lot of people that I know never really have a chance to watch me (in person), so that's just extra motivation to play as best as I can. Today I think it was probably the best match I've ever played, to be honest, alongside the Australian Open final this year, so Im very happy.

Article about Oda's win over ALfie on the BBC

And as mentioned, Alfie has in fact lost his top ranking to another Japanese, Kunieda, who was number one before Alfie and who withdrew before his semi with Alfie in this event.

Disappointment all round for Alfie this week
