New thread to record performances in wheelchair events. This week is Victoria Open, Series 1 event with $32k prizeMoney. Gordon Reid is into mens singles semis and Luch Shuker womens doubles final.
next week is Melbourne Open Super Series with $45k at stake.
Alfie in to the semis here, plays Fernandez. Other semi features the WR #1 from Japan and the new star, Oda, also from Japan - Oda is expected to do big thingd this season.
Alfie and Gordon in doubles final, Andy Lapthorne in quad doubles final
Alfie wins his semi and is now into the final, well done to him.
Alfie and Gordon however give a walkover in the doubles final, not sure the story there.
And Andy Lapthorne loses the quads doubles final.
In the mens singles final, Alfie will play world number one Kunieda of Japan, who beat the young upstart Oda 7-6 7-6. Look out for the Japanese rivalry with Alfie this year.
Alfie takes the Melbourne Super Series title via a retirement for his opponent at 4-4. Nonetheless good week for Alfie and a Super Series is the equivalent of a M1000 event so big title to win.
Alfie seeded 2 and Gordon also in singles, seeded one together in mens doubles
Lucy in womens singles as a WC and seeded 2 in doubles
Andy in quads singles and seeded 2 in doubles
Quads though is all about Dylan Alcott who is the poster boy for this tournament (the whole event) and retires after this event.
Well done to Alfie Hewett for beating his big rival Fernandez in his opener. However, Gordon Reid went down comfortably against Stephane Houdet, and Houdet plays Alfie in the semis.
Plaudits to Lucy Shuker, lowest ranked in the womens singles draw and on a wildcard. She beat higher ranked Zhenzhen Zhu in straight sets and is into the semis. She now plays world number one Diede De Groot, but that was a great win for Lucy.
