Great job Amelia !!  Lets hope she goes all the way !

Tough loss for Angelica in a tight match but she should be happy with her outstanding results this year including her 3 wins in this event and long unbeaten run prior to today.

One would hope so in the age of equality!! Think Paul also got an LTA PSP scholarship and  allegedly funding of ~50k/year.

I was just wondering was Paul's Wimbledon MD WC down to this or his senior record including grass court matches earlier that summer or a combination of the two?

I seem to recall it was linked to this, but I cannot say with certainty!

Can anyone shine a light on Amelia? With respect, her junior ranking and results did not suggest this. Would love to know how she made it even to the start line of this tournament.

So pleased for her - let's keep this going.

Actually looking back, you have a point , Indy (for once! haha). Seems Paul then got a wildcard into the various challengers on grass in 2019 and then the day before the Wimbledon cards got announced, playing at Ilkley, he took out the 8th seed (Monteiro) in the main draw and got to the last 16 (it was 48 draw event in challengers in those days). He had done well at Surbiton, taking Dino Ward to 3 sets in his opening match.

So the NCAA title seems to have got him wild cards into the grass challengers and he cemented a place in Wimbledon by doing pretty well in that grass season. MichaelD (used to be  a great poster here) comments on the wildcard and this page deals with it a little).

If Amelia can somehow pull this off then she must get a MD for Wimbledon, especially when Jubb has set the precedent in this area.

Worth pointing out a player who did not have an outstanding junior career starting to excel once they reach the US college circuit isn't unheard of. Joe Salisbury performed well above expectations for his college programme as did Henry Patten, who I think is the only player from his college to ever make the NCAA singles bracket.

I've also mentioned Gabriela Knutson a couple of times on this forum and she may be the strongest recent example of this phenomenon. Her highest junior ranking was 271, but with the best results coming more often in doubles and she wasn't heavily recruited. At Syracuse she ended up ranked as high as number 4 in the country IIRC. Her current live ranking in senior tennis is now 271 as well and could land around 240 if she wins the ITF 25k in Monastir, and all this with the handicap of not having a coach. For some players the rigours of the college circuit seem to transform them mentally and physically like nothing else.
