In the boys, there were eight foreign players in the starting line-up.

After R1, there are only three left.

The girls signed in last night.
There is also a TE comp at the same time hence the staggered starts and no qualification.
I will be down Thursday and Friday.

For some reason the boys second round is all finished whereas the girls have barely got going on their first round.

However, in the Boys QFs, we have:

Jamie Diack v (8) Jonah Gethin (Jamie (age 15) put out the top seed, Fabio Nestola, with no real bother)
(6) Kyle Hughes v (3) Lorenzo Carboni (ITA)
(7) George Russell v Ben Gusic Wan
(5) Max Relic v (2) Charlie Camus (AUS)

In the girls, in R1, there were eight foreign players.

At the end of R1, there are now four left.

In terms of results, the 'shock' was that second seed, Imogen Haddad, lost to a French girl.

However, GB's Paulina Jurkowska put out the 5th seed from Botswana

Allegra Davies (age 14) also beat Italy's 7th seed.

Other points to note is that both Lois and Eloise Newberry got wins (quite why the parents chose to give their daughters practically identical names rather bemuses me but, hey, why not, I guess.....)
Eloise is only 13, and only her 2nd event, so specific well done to her. (Mind you, Lois is only 14 too).

Perhaps Eloise would beat Lois with e-ase

Name to watch : Ben Gusic Wan.
He just won his match easily. He is tiny, but has great court coverage and very consistent.

If he finds a bit of height and power in the next couple of years, he could be a superstar.

Left that match at one set all. Eloise is the best returner I have seen for a while. The remainder of her game is OK, but inconsistent.

Ben was the U12 National Champion in 2019 so is pretty well known and an LTA favourite.

He's born 2007.

However, he lost out in the final of the U14 National Championships this year (lost to Joseph Mazingham)

He got a wildcard into Les Petits As (U14) this year and made it through R1 but lost in R2.

That sounds very encouraging for an inexperienced 13 year-old

Boys SF:

Jamie Diack (age 15) v (3) Lorenzo Carboni (age 15) (ITA)

Ben Wan (age 13, born 2007) v (2) Charlie Camus (age 15) (AUS)

Well done to young Ben. And good luck to both GB lads in their semis, against far higher ranked players

There were two mammoth matches with Jamie Diack and Lorenzo Carboni winning in 2h 40 and 3h 10 respectively.
Ben is less than 5ft and ended up standing on a chair to watch the end of the Carboni match, but won comfortably against a lad a foot taller, who hits the ball twice as hard.

The girls matches are at QF stage with a few foreigners still in. Both Newberry girls went out, but put up decent performances.
Abbie Kelleher is tiny, but looks a decent prospect.
Gabi P's match ended up in controversy on match point when she though it was a double bounce. It wasn't given despite an official within 5 yards and she stormed off without shaking hands.
Surprised Given Roach went out, but beaten by a very useful girl in Sirena Waas who is very good defensively.

Tomorrow's TE finals are Jonny Cross v Alex Winder and Isabelle Walker v Shamiso Ndoro

Interesting to hear your feelings, paulisi.

I've never seen Sirena but I've been disappointed in the little bit I've seen of Given.

I've also heard that Kristina P can be a bit 'difficult' so maybe it runs in the family.

Girls QFs:

(8) Abby Kelliher (2007) v Nao Nishino (1) (JPN)
Sirena Waas (2006) v (6) Kate Mansfield (USA)
Paulina Jurkowska (2005) v (4) Tabitha Holmes (2005)
Allegra K Davies (2007) v Clemence Thouard (FRA)

Special well done to the two 2007-ers, of course.

And good luck to all today.
