Stuart Fraser @stu_fraser The LTA also confirms the story last week that a bid is in to host the 2022 BJK Cup Finals.
LTA CEO Scott Lloyd: "We are keen to bring other events to this country and remain in the running to host the Billie Jean King Cup finals later this year."
Presumably if this is successful this could mean we get a slot even if we lose to Czech Republic? Taking Russia's spot?
Somebody of the tennis forum has written that Australia replace Russia in the final. Slovakia who were due to play Australia receive a bye and advance directly to the Final. Belgium also advance as they receive a walkover from Belarus.
Thats correct , its those 3 plus 8 qualifier winners plus one other wildcard whicg could be the host, to make 12 teams.
The final team are the hosts, who are guaranteed a place, or if the hosts have already qualified, the highest ranked losing team in the qualifiers. We won't be the highest ranked losing team as both Canada and Latvia who play each other are above us. If all ties go according to ranking we would be the 2nd highest ranked losing team.
So we need to be the host to play, assuming of course we dont cause the biggest upset in tennis. Or since one of our player/s caused the biggest upset last September, at least.
Emma, Harriet, Katie S, Sonay. Suspect the former two will be leading the charge, probably to limited success, unfortunately, but should be great experience for both Emma and Sonay.
Heather apparently asked to sit it out, Katie B and Fran injured, so probably the best 4 after that. I think Sonay has proven she's at a higher level than Jodie at the moment, especially with that W25 win, perhaps not too much between Katie S and Jodie, but Katie has had the better start to 2022.
Heather was possibly told she'd be #3, and if so, at this stage of her career, you can't really blame her for concentrating her efforts elsewhere.
BBC are showing the tie - not sure if it will just be the usual iPlayer, Red Button, online, or if Emma's inclusion, and the additional ratings interest, might secure a more lucrative platform?
Krejcikova, Pliskova & Kvitova are all absent but they should still win. Makes things a little more interesting though, maybe? Afterall, Emma beat Vondrousova at Wimbledon.

Hi - what is the Czech team please? Is there a list published, the tournie website doesnt seem to have it yet
I don't think it's been confirmed yet Jon, at least I've not seen it anyway, but LB may be going off this tweet (unless they have saw something official) - twitter.com/SchoolerSport/status/1504789647666429959
Czech will surely still winbut brilliant experience for Sonay and a lower pressure intro to the clay season for Emma and Harriet. Interesting that Katie B is still so very cautious to play on clay
Great to see Sonay in the squad. I thought she had an outside chance given her good results on clay but expected Annie K ultimately to play it safe so delighted she made it after all even if she's unlikely to play.
Could another factor in the selection be to secure her future for GB in case the Turks try to tap her up?
Surely the Davis Cup Group going to Glasgow makes it unlikely for GB to host the BJK Cup Finals this year as well?

Interesting selection but given we have no chance of winning realistically I understand Katie and Heather taking a step back for this one.
Great experience for Sonay and I actually think Harriet will do a good job for us (not necessarily winning ties but putting in good showings against strong opposition as she continues to improve and move up).

Katie B may be injured as she has just withdrawn from Miami.
Controversial I know but if I was Emma I would skip this.
She is struggling to stay fit as it is with limited matches and this seems like a potential risk of further injury playing in a largely meaningless competition in terms of us having any chance of progress.
