Just looked and we're down for a clay court for this...

Yep, pretty certain the Czech team will win. Nonetheless, Starr
Of the clay season and a good chance to get two matches in for Emma and perhaps Harriet, I would say. Heather and Tara as a doubles pair ?

I'd be going Heather and Harriet in the doubles. I know it may mean lat least least one of them at least playing both singles and doubles but I think there remains a quality gap to Tara, even though she has done well with Emina.

And maybe Emma and Katie B anyway for singles though I'd be thinking more Emma and Harriet at this stage.

I would pick Harriet over Katie for singles on clay every time but I'm loving the optimism that the doubles will even be a consideration.

Yes I'd pick Harriet on a clay court too.

It clearly wont , itll be 5-0 - they may not even play it-  but I guess you at least have to pick a team!

Fran is probably our best clay court player but is presumably still injured.

Is it too soon to give Sonay a call up? She's already had some success on the dirt in Turkey.

Of course the player who must have won more matches on clay than any other British player over the years is Amanda C but she has never quite got high enough in the rankings to warrant selection. Her highest ranking was 236.

Can't see Mandy being considered, even if fully fit. Too much of an ask for Sonay at the moment, although if she carries on playing well she might be considered for a hitting partner in the near future. Unfortunately the Czechs are far too strong in both singles and doubles, whoever they pick for their team, and the tie should probably be viewed as one for gaining experience.

The LTA also confirms the story last week that a bid is in to host the 2022 BJK Cup Finals.

LTA CEO Scott Lloyd: "We are keen to bring other events to this country and remain in the running to host the Billie Jean King Cup finals later this year."

Presumably if this is successful this could mean we get a slot even if we lose to Czech Republic? Taking Russia's spot?

If successful we'd get in as the hosts are guaranteed a wildcard I believe. Would be amazing to host the finals. I don't like the new format but would be a fun week to attend.

Somebody of the tennis forum has written that Australia replace Russia in the final. Slovakia who were due to play Australia receive a bye and advance directly to the Final. Belgium also advance as they receive a walkover from Belarus.

Thats correct , its those 3 plus 8 qualifier winners plus one other wildcard whicg could be the host, to make 12 teams.

The final team are the hosts, who are guaranteed a place, or if the hosts have already qualified, the highest ranked losing team in the qualifiers. We won't be the highest ranked losing team as both Canada and Latvia who play each other are above us. If all ties go according to ranking we would be the 2nd highest ranked losing team.
