Boys & Girls: J4 Loughborough - Hard (indoor) (Week 39)

The second week sees a the A team arrive for the boys

Louis Bowden and Matt Rankin come to boost the ranks (fresh from decent results in Spain).

So Paul Inchauspe (FRA) has a bit more competition this week.

Most of the others are the same, including Phoenix, last week's finalist.

All foreign players in qualis were knocked out.

So there's only Paul and a lad from Cyprus (whose name I've seen several times so I assume he lives in the UK) to stymie the GB hopes

In the girls, there's a new top seed turned up, a girl called Gloriana Goreti Nahum (BEN). And three other 'peskies'

Mimi and Talia are here again, as are most of the others

 She seems to have disappeared.

Some interesting results from our real youngsters this morning:

Wins for 2008-born Amalia Widdowson, as well as Ruby Cooling and Lois Newberry (both 2007 born).

AND Maria Ustic, also 2007 born, took out the Japanese 4th seed in two sets.

AND Abby Kelliher, also 2007 born, beat Imogen Haddad (5th seed), also in 2 sets.

Top seed and last week's winner needed three sets to get past James Beavan.

But he's the only foreign players left in the boy's draw as the cypriot lad lost.

The rest is pretty much as expected although Wil Jenkins (5th seed) had to retire.

And in the final matches of the girls R1, the 'shock' (although only really on paper) was that Kristina Paskauskas (2nd seed) was knocked out by Isabelle Lacy.

R2:

Nice win for 13 year-old Ben Gusic Wan over Freddy Blaydes.

He'll play the top seed from France next.

The other QFs are:

Ben Hudson v Phoenix Weir
Hugo Coquelin v Luca Pow
Louis Bowden v Fab Nestola

R2 Girls:

In the battle of the 2007-ers, Ruby def. Lois. She'll play Issey Purser, top seed, next.

Mimi plays Talia in another QF (a repeat of last week's final)

Another 2007, Abby Kelliher, is doing very well and is now into the QF too, against Adeola Greatorex.

Also, Isabelle Lacy plays Raath (RSA)

Anders Borg had a fall out with the council a few years back and moved it to the Wirral. Looks like it is back at Wavertree.

I'll find out the full story tomorrow as the tennis centre has only just re-opened having been a test centre for over 12 months.

The J5 is a joint event with Tennis Europe which I saw a Wirral last time as where I saw Mimi win it and Hep was playing doubles.
