Boys & Girls: J4 Loughborough - Hard (indoor) (Week 38)

So, we have two domestic J4s, back to back.

Excellent opportunity for a lot of our youngsters (and a couple of foreign interlopers smile)

We have some of the tiddlers back from Les Petits As. And a few older players too. Lots I've never heard of. A few names I've been following from afar and will be very curious to see how they do. A few LTA 'stars'.

Qualis have finished and the main draws are out.

In the girls, Issey Purser and Kristina Paskauskas are top seeds. But Mimi Xu is also in the draw, plus Talia Gatenby, Ella McDonald and Ellie Blackford and other interesting players

In the boys, we have a French lad and an Irish lad as top 2 seeds. But also Fabio, Luca, Phoenix, Hugo C etc.

A few results of note in R1 of the boys:

7th seed Roy Keegan lost to a lad I've never heard of - Andy Brisdon

14 year-old Charlie Robertson got an easy win.

Wins for the other seeds so far, though (although Wil Jenkins took three sets to beat youngster Max Carrier, hot from his good run at les Petits As)

The rest of the R1 boys went pretty much according to plan.

Hugo Coquelin (our 15/16 champion) only won his match 6-4 in the third.

Ben Hudson put up a good fight too against the top seed but just came up short.

In the girls, Isabelle Lacy beat the 4th seed with ease.

Ava Williamson likewise with the 6th seed.

And 13 year-old Ruby Cooling continues to impress.

It's all GB in the girls.

Ella McDonald had to withdraw. Hope she's OK. But little Amalia Widdowson (born 2008, saw her at the Super Auray, one of the our GB team in LTA comps too) gets the benefit, into the QFs (don't even know if 2008-ers are allowed to be ITF ranked???)

QFs:

(1) Issey Purser v (7) Talia

Isabelle Lacey v Amalia Widdowson (age 13)

(3) Mimi Xu v Ava Williamson

(2) Kristina P v Ellie Blackford

For my info, is this the only event with our juniors in this week or do we have others elsewhere around the globe?

Congrats to Phoenix for taking out the second seed in style. Only one 'pesky' left now :)

And Jonah Gethin (new name to me) for coming through so far without breaking sweat. (Looking him up, I think the boy was born and grew up for a certain period in Hong Kong - not sure how old he was when he came here)

SFs:

(1) Paul Inchauspe (FRA) v Jonah Gethin

(6) Phoenix Weir v (4) Luca Pow

In the girls, top seed Issey P was knocked out by Talia.

And second seed Kristina P, needed three sets to beat Ellie Blackford.

So SFs:

(7) Talia Gatenby Neilson (2005) v Isabelle Lacy (2006)

Kristina Paskauskas (2004) v Mimi Xu (2007 and still 13)

The Brits in the final this week have done well to beat their seedings and some.

Phoenix Weir seems a talent, any idea how good he is and should we be keeping an eye on him as a future pro?
