Yes,  she achieved JR1 in 2009 - not certain if she was 14 or 15 at the time.

Laura Robson became JWR1 in March 2009 at the age of 15, but she became the top ranked British junior after winning Wimbledon in July 2008 (age 14). No other 14 year old has been top British junior for the last 30 years at least.

Hannah has then gone through the draw like a hot knife through butter. Winning the next Q match, and her first match in the main draw, all players ranked about 550-600

And then:

R2: KLUGMAN, Hannah (GBR) Q 1101 def MIYAZAKI, Yuriko Lily (GBR) (6) 163 7-6(7) 4-6 6-2

An awesome display

 Thanks, indeed she did biggrin

Just to add a little, from the Sky report yesterday:

"Speaking at the US Open earlier this year, Klugman said: "I still go to Wimbledon High School, I want to stay there as long as I can, it's nice to have friends outside tennis.

"It's getting quite tough now but I will try and stay as long as possible. I take my computer away with me and stay in touch with my teachers.

"I want to get my GCSEs at school for sure but that's so far ahead. I don't really want to go on to college but we will see how it goes, for now I want to go professional.""

Just a quick observation - anything in the media with the name Gauff in it is likely to be recycled by other news agencies as I'm sure you know. Interestingly the Sky report on Hannah mentioning Gauff has already been recycled by Tennis USA amongst others.  Tennis USA has 50 million readers. Along with domestic papers picking this up, I just wonder if Hannah's team knew or had any leverage over that article. I know management companies get some bad press but in this era sometimes you need them to take control and watch your back. Otherwise, perhaps this was a strategic option at this stage to maybe get entry to some more senior events in the States. I agree with CD this story is out now and maybe hasn't been managed so well. Time will tell.

Just to be clear, I wasn't saying that it hasn't been managed well

The girl has won the matches, it's very news-worthy, and they're not quirks, they're natural follow-ons from where she was

Of course the media are going to report it. Maybe more with Gauff's name there but they're going to report it anyway.

I've no idea if Hannah's parents/team has any say in it but (a) she's not got a big agency posting mega photos of her, (b) as said, she's not like Efremova and Sara, with a huge instagram focus

Personally, I don't think there's anything to 'manage' in this story. The story is the wins.

What needs managing is Hannah's health - I've got confidence she's got a balanced homelife that will cover most of the rest.

I think I'm saying there are a few questions arising CD. Sorry, I wasn't inferring that you thought she was mismanaged. My point was control over content when giving interviews and social media presence. I lecture in digital marketing, so I am perhaps a little more worried about how these situations can get out of control. Efremova has 50K followers which on balance is pretty modest given that Katie Swan has over 100K and Katie Boulter 225k. Emma R 2.4m.

Thanks, Var, always interesting to hear people from other disciplines.

Slightly confused about the relevance of the numbers though - Efremova is only 14 so it's not quite right to compare her to Swan and Boulter, is it?

Efremova is Hannah's age - hence my comparison of Ksenia having 50k and Hannah having 1.5k or so.

Absolutely correct but Hannah's Instagram account is private - It isn't public. You have to request to follow. Acceptances are few and far between. Efremova is open/public,

New kids on the block gain followers quickly, so not unexpected Efremova grew quickly.

I liked Hannahs's approach to keeping things controlled on Insta, hence I suppose I was surprised by the Gauff comparison on Sky which was bound to generate traffic.
