I wonder if that is an option currently, with the younger players seeming to transition to seniors more easily in the womans game? Thinking of Mirra et al. There must be some pressure on those high performing juniors to jump more quickly? Also there is Coco who studied online when she was on the tour, something we tend to forget.

I suppose this is a sign of just how ambitious Hannah is. Looks to me like she doesn't see herself on the same schedule as Emma and has visions of making inroads on the WTA tour as early as Mirra Andreeva.

Not really. It's not like she abandoned school altogether is it? And online learning is a thing now because of COVID rather than a rarity.

It's not about learning, it's about balance, normality and a healthy childhood but like I said, it's her life. The tour is an adult environment and Hannah (and Mirra) is a child.

I think you can have a healthy, balanced childhood, even as a young tennis pro

It won't be 'normal', but - then - it hasn't been 'normal' up to now either

And, tbh, how can anything be normal, if you're the best in the world in a high-profile, high-earning sport?

Emma was miles off Hannah's level at this age so it's hardly comparable

Obviously it can all go wrong

I 'worry' more about her training at the NTC than her pastoral situation

Emma was relatively unusual in having parents insist she stayed in school. I guess the main worry for Hannah is burnout/disillusion/injury playing too much too young although she certainly seems to love the sport at present.

The other thing is that Hannah is good mates with a lot of other girls. Mimi is her best friend and she certainly gets on well with Isa and Im sure lots of the other British players. I always think Emma is much more surrounded by her team than other GB players, so maybe thats why she needed more contact with school friends her own age.

Agree Nix, the juniors seem to have a great time. I particularly think its worth following Mimi on Instagram. She posts very good photos and loads of photos with her fellow tennis juniors always having loads of fun! Augurs well for the future.

Yes. Leaving school aside, importantly, she seems good mates with a lot of the other non-GB girls too

She's often seen larking around with Emerson Jones, for instance, as well as some of the others

She's also withdrawn from Edgbaston which seems sensible - her interview says she's not going to move over all guns blazing into adults, she wants to prioritise juniors still.

I definitely expect to see her at Roehampton though

In her ITF interview she does recognise that by not being in school she will need a group of friends to hang out with while on the road and to keep in touch with non-tennis friends at home.
