Just heard that a 2009er called Julieta Pareja has reached FQR of US Open MD. Does anyone know anything about her? Not heard of her before so seems surprising and I thought Hannah was top for her age year?

Pareja is only ranked 960, well below Hannah, though she'll jump about 250 places even if she loses in the FQR. This is her first senior tournament since winning the Rancho Santa Fe W15 title in California just before Wimbledon. Her junior ranking is 106 and since that W15 title, she has won J100 and J200 titles in Colombia, both without dropping a set. She is now on a 17-match winning streak in singles across juniors and seniors combined.

Funnily enough, Hannah and Julieta share the exact same date of birth
And both have made the FQR
Remains to be seen if Julieta goes one step further :)
One of the things often said about Julieta is that she is not the product of an academy, no rich parents, grew up playing on public courts, with her sisters
And has played relatively little outside the US, again for financial reasons
An attractive game, she's a slight girl, no real brut power, but peppers the corners, left to right.
Both give a more 'overall' ranking of the players - taking into account their domestic matches, who they've beaten, what those players they've beaten have done since etc etc
This is important for Julieta as she's played quite a lot of domestic tennis (I think her WTN is quite good)
Some think WTA matters more (but it favours players from bigger countries with wildcards to give out - Hannah has benefited from that in the way that some of the top Eastern European players haven't)
If you prefer juniors, Kristina Penickova is still 14 but has made the SFs of a junior Grand Slam (Hannah and Julieta haven't)
I honestly think there are a thousand ways to cut and dice it
True! Perhaps there is an argument to say that Hannah should not play juniors any more (or just the slams) and focus on building up her senior ranking as she is clearly good enough. I know juniors are fun for players and a lot can be gained but more of a senior route has seemed to work for Julieta and may be better for Hannah now?

In actual fact this year to date Hannah has had more of a mix of ITF senior tournaments compared to juniors than Julieta, who prior to her USO QWC had just played 3 W15s, winning one of them ( Hannah has played more and at higher levels ), with both having received QWCs to their home Slams.
I imagine Hannah will indeed increasingly focus on seniors though certainly should at least play the junior Slams.
I agree with CD that there are so many different paths ( and ways to in theory judge things ) that it can be difficult to judge who is the best among players at still such a relatively young age, and that it really doesn't matter at this stage.
