Great match point, but unfortunately goes the other way. Did Jodie choke this win away or did her opponent play well to get it back?
Yes, agree with PaulM
This was not a choke (I'd say Katie's second set end was more of a choke - and LOVE the Jeremey Bates quip - I'm rather afraid Katie's mum is too matey and rather in awe of Jeremy - it would Katie good to have a change, even if you're a Jeremy fan - are there any?)
But back to Jodie....
Yes, you can say that from that lead in the third she 'should' have done better. But it was only one break.
She didn't lose her cool. She played her game - went for shots, without being crazy.
The only thing that I feel cost her was that she made way too many mistakes off the serve, particularly the second serve. You can't just keep missing so many second serve returns. She needed to 'enfonce le clou' as the French say i.e. hit her when she's down, drive it home, not give her wriggle room.
And, yes, Stef was quite wily and played her percentages. Mind you, she looked very relieved - and a little surprised - to have won.
I swear Diatchenko is one of these players that regularly plays 7-6 6-7 7-6 matches (aside from the loss to Raducanu), whenever I see her pop up it's with these crazy scorelines
Boults snatches the loss of the second set from the jaws of victory....6-2 5-7.....
Bah, very un-Boultslike I would say. Now c'mon Katie!
Hmm...not so sure....I seem to remember a Wimbledon qualifying loss from a set and 5-0 up on Petersen some years ago. Anyway 2-0* up in the 3rd.....let's hope she and Harriet (now a set to the good) can get over the line!!
