Sam's match is so fun to watch. Real cat and mouse stuff, lots of net exchanges. She goes a break down then blows so many break points then finally gets there after a brilliant point.

Oh drat. Sam does a brilliant job but just comes up short, going out on a poor smash which doesn't do her otherwise solid net play justice. Now having a spat with the umpire I think over how she dealt with Niculescu's time violations. But she should be proud of her week. Did great.

This is a bit busy with GB women in US Open qualifying and Scottish football teams in Europe. Anyway I am sure you will want to know that so far Rangers are through to the Europa League group stage

Fran couldn't have fought harder. Nice hug at the end. Another of our girls who should be leaving New York feeling good about what they out on court. She's still moving in the right direction despite everything thrown at her.

Emma wastes a break point at 4-4* second set then digs herself out a hole to hold for 5-5*

She's really struggling in the heat now, Bolkvadze stringing out the points and making this the sort of physical contest Emma is not really ready yet to handle. Especially not in these conditions. Needs to keep landing those nice first serves, especially the sliders out wide, and get this done.
