The Daily Telegraph's headlines look like billing for a film.Jodie and Harriet were yet to play. Emma is the big headline. Then Katie. Sam and Fran are then the supporting cast. To put a slight dampner on things Katie is still wearing tape round the right elbow.

i.e. out of 7 matches, we were expected to win 4.79
BUT we won 7 !
The odds were FAR wider, as you say - it's on steven's twitter somewhere (20:1 comes to mind but not sure....)

Yes, I made it overall 4 expected wins for our women and about 13/1 against all 6 women winning. So it would be getting up towards 20/1 against them all winning when you throw in Liam.
It would have been much bigger odds before the draws came out.
Q2: BURRAGE, Jodie (GBR) 235 (CH=232 2021) v VOEGELE, Stephanie (SUI) 18 128 (CH=42 2013) Q2: RADUCANU, Emma (GBR) 31 150 =CH {18yo JCH= 20} v BOLKVADZE, Mariam (GEO) 167 (CH=152 2019) Q2: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) 180 (CH=82 2019) v DIATCHENKO, Vitalia (RUS) 24 139 (CH=71 2014) Q2: DART, Harriet (GBR) 32 151 (CH=121 2019) v STEFANINI, Lucrezia (ITA) 213 =CH Q2: MURRAY SHARAN, (GBR) PR 263 (CH=165 2013) v NICULESCU, Monica (ROM) 216 (CH=28 2012) Q2: JONES, Francesca (GBR) 170 (CH=167 2021) v CRISTIAN, Jaqueline Adina (ROM) 26 142 (CH=140 2021) They met in the Minsk final in 2019 with Fran winning in three, Cristian was the number 2 seed at the time.
Great stuff but Q2 looks much trickier, ironically only Harriet seems to have an easier match given how much she struggled in Q1.
I've never been hugely impressed by Mariam B's game when I've seen her in the UK (though could be completely missing the point). I've no idea about Christian but, given her CH and age, that's a true ranking. And from what I can see, she's really a clay player?
But any which way, that's a WONDERFUL set of QR1 wins (and Liam too) - as someone says above, never seen anything like it.
And I'm not going to rain on the parade by muttering about Harriet having to take three sets - she won, end of. As did they all
At the moment Jaq. Christian is the 2nd highest ranked in the WTA rankings never to have played a Grand Slam singles match. She's 142 on tennis abstract's list
Until recently Mariam was based in UK at Chiswick and coached by Simon Ainley for 6 months of the year. Thus she had a BTM and played a lot of LTA events. She presumably still has her BTM and all her results in both LTA and ITF events will count towards her combined rankings. Her standard has improved greatly in the last couple of years. World ranking of 174 would place her as fourth best in a British ranking list.
LTA have her as our 4th best overall player on these combined rankings a) really and b) how does she get included??
As Bagel says, she was based on the UK. That's why I've seen her several times.
I don't follow the system but as I understand it anyone who plays LTA events gets an LTA ranking. It's nothing to do with nationality.
(That's certainly the French system)
Ok, makes sense - and presumably skmeone has to have a county allegiance through being based here - otherwise we would see all those playing Queens or Eastbourne or ITF events getting ranked ?!
You don't need a country allegiance. You just need a licence. (An LTA licence in this case). Anyone can get one.
Sorry, I meant county - I see Mariam, Conny and Aljaz Bedene all have a county next to their name! Which presumably would mean they could play County Week if so inclined?
What a great set of results.
I think all our women have a good chance to progress here though Jodie's match looks tough on paper.
With 3 withdrawals so far and a good chance of more there could be a good number of lucky loser spots too which means one more win may possibly be enough.

Yes, I imagine you have to have a club or county or whatever for reference.
In France, you just join a club. Anywhere you like. You don't need to live there. And then your licence is part of that club's list.
Looks like they have changed the featured court today. Court 17 was the one with commentary the past couple of days, but seems that it is Court 5 today - Emma is third on that court.
