Eva Shaw and Ranah Stoiber return to action after a week's break. Eva plays a qualifier, who has won a lot of matches this year at a lower level, including one against Ranah. Eva is in the same quarter of the draw as top seed Ane Mintegi Del Olmo, the Wimbledon champion perhaps looking to play a junior tournament before heading to the US Open, given the Canadian Open in the week prior has been downgraded to a Grade 3
Good win for Ranah over a top 100 player, but Eva sadly retired. The top seed surprisingly lost. Mingge Xu lost in qualifying but partners Ranah in the doubles.

Ranah follows up with her second ever win in a Grade 1 (the only other wins she has above Grade 3 were at Wimbledon) and plays another wildcard in the quarter-finals
In the US Grade 1 there was a loss by retirement - here we have the upside. As a result Ranah has a grand slam last 16 and a Grade 1 semi in her 6 counting tournaments, which stick out by comparison with her Grade 3/4 counters. Her semi opponent looks to be stronger than the three players she has encountered so far, being top 50 with a Grade 1 final earlier in the year.
