Weeks 35 & 36 - US Open, Flushing Meadows, New York City (hard)

Holger Rune is playing Djoko tonight.

He's the 18 year-old who Anton Matusevich beat so beautifully in Junior Wimbly in 2019.

He's got nothing to lose tonight and will go out swinging, I'd imagine

I saw that. It's quite interesting to compare his experience on the tour to Clara Tausons. Holger has managed to get I think 7 WCs to various tournaments and has certainly made good use of them recently.

Loved that match against Anton, especially when Anton won and went running over to his schoolmates.

Superb effort. Wish I'd had the chance to see more of it. Very perfunctory hand shake from Andy at the net. Any earlier issues?

Tsitsipas took an 8 minute toilet break,  Andy moaned to the referee about it several times.

And shoe gate. Proper match though. Thoroughly enjoyable

Quote from Andy on Twitter just now:

Fact of the day. It takes Stefanos Tsitipas twice as long to go the bathroom as it takes Jeff Bezos to fly into space. Interesting.

Get the feeling Andy is still not best pleased.

LordBrownoff must have had an absolutely cracking time last night. Recovering from that match will tell Andy a lot about whether he can give the tour a proper go next year.

Ah thanks, I did indeed. Everything except the result.

For three of the five sets it really was vintage Andy - wonderful tennis. The television really doesn't do his backhand justice. The backhand to backhand exchanges at times was a joy to behold.

My only gripe about the day was, well, getting into the grounds was an absolute farce, but Andy's match went on so long the only other tennis I got to see was a set and a half from Dan!

...although having said that with Cam and Hev losing the way they did, coupled with Jo withdrawing, it doesn't look like I missed much!

Toiletpas was a total shambles last night.

These next gen brats are really not doing themselves any favours. He has been called out already this morning by many players on twitter.

In the 10 min toilet brake, he also has his phone and may be coached, this is wrong on so many levels.

Dan against Giron today, would be great to see Dan get to the 3rd round.

The Tsitsipas saga rumbles on!  This report by the Beeb comments on Andy's Bezos tweet, as reported by Bob yesterday, & on the Greek's growing reputation for taking breaks during matches, notes that Zverev's now got in on the act & includes a solution to lengthy toilet breaks proposed by Tracy Austin.

Hilarious at Zverev trying to put the spotlight on others to save him being asked about his alleged off court issues.

Play is now under way. Dan broke in the very first game and currently leads 4-2*

Dan seems to be playing reasonably within himself - decent set so far

There was a further interruption just after Dan had retrieved an early break in the second set.

Under way again. 6-4 5-5*
