Well played Andy - hes still got it, just not getting a decent run.

Superb effort. Wish I'd had the chance to see more of it. Very perfunctory hand shake from Andy at the net. Any earlier issues?

Oh, and Cam's a set and a break down.

4-6 1-2*

Tsitsipas took an 8 minute toilet break,  Andy moaned to the referee about it several times.

I did think it would be a tough one - you don't get into the top 60 at 18 without being extremely good.

L128: Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) WR 55 (CH = 54 at the start of August, aged 18) beat (26) Cameron Norrie WR 29 (= CH) by  6-4 6-4 6-3

Carlos' MD debut in the main tour at the USO. His year at the slams is R2 (AO), R3 (FO), R2 (Wim) and at least R2 here. Shame it had to be at Cam's expense.

And Andy has been pretty direct about what he thinks of Tsitsipas' anit-vaccine stance. As has T.

Yeah, and shows you don't have to be too obsessed with junior rankings either.

I remember him losing to Jacob Fearnley in the final of some Spanish junior ITF.....

LordBrownoff must have had an absolutely cracking time last night. Recovering from that match will tell Andy a lot about whether he can give the tour a proper go next year.

Pretty awful day 1 in win-loss terms for the Brits, even though two of the losses in particular were very good GB performances:

74% Evans - WON

60% Norrie - OUT
49% Watson - OUT
41% Dart - OUT
11% Murray - OUT

53% Raducanu - TUE
34% Boulter - TUE

E(wins) was 3.22, max now 3

He's righ tthough, it's a joke, he says his team warned hin to expect it and to be prepared but being prepared mentally doesn't stop your body reacting to the break. I still maintain that the other player should be allowed a physio on to keep the muscles warm rather than be left sitting out there filling in time. It might make the decision to have a toilet break a little bit harder if the player knows his opponent is getting a (possibly) nice massage.
